Windows 7+HT Omega Claro+ Logitech X540 = GAAAHHHHH

Hey all..

I'm pulling my hair out here trying to get these components to work together. I've spent 10 days now on it! ABSOLUTELY ludicrous.

Speakers: Logitech X540
Sound card: HT Omega Claro
OS: Windows 7 Professional (Realtek drivers)
Motherboard: Asus P67 Sabertooth

All drivers are 100% up-to-date.

Issue: I am completely unable to get my subwoofer to output bass. It comes out of the center speaker. I am also unable to get all speakers playing simultaneously, the side pair are usually mute. As I understand, the latter is a common issue on Windows 7.

What I've tried:

- Setting the speakers to 5.1 (obviously) and 7.1 with the rear pair turned off (and tried side pair off once).
- Within the Claro software options i tried setting channel to 2 and speakers to 6 as suggested on their own site.
- Moving the plugs around into different ports (they are all in the correct ones, I hexa checked)
- Running the speakers through my motherboard directly... same issues

I am about to the point where I am wanting to RMA both of them and buy a pair of cheap 2.1 speakers... my old set worked just fine, even if they did sound awful, and cost a lot less.

Well first, the Claro Halo + X540 is a downright silly combination. Have you tried connecting to the realtek?

As if Realtek would sound better? That is just a plain silly recommendation.

Crappy sound with not great speakers. He will think he made a wrong choice for sure.

I'm not an audiophile, I'm a digital artist. A 200+ USD sound solution is overkill for me already. (claro by the way, not claro halo) wink.gif

Oddly enough, they are working now. I changed nothing at all, beyond plugging headphones into the X540's controller jack and then unplugging them. I then had to lower the LFE crossover frequency to 50 hz. Working great now.

For the record, it sounds great to my ears. Walls are rattling when I play bass-heavy music, and rock sounds crystal clear. But again, I'm not an audiophile. I don't need pure gold wires and 2000 USD speakers!

Thanks, I'm sure the X540's are a bottleneck at this point, but I didn't care for stock sound on my mobo, so I will at least have room to "grow" now if I decide on a higher quality sound system.
