I'm aware of the Kama Bay. I got something similar for my daughter's Lian Li case - the Lian Li EX-332B. It can hold three HD's, but LL also makes a fan-only device.

You do raise a good point, though. With the decline in the use of DVD drives I might try plugging mine in through an eSATA, or just get an external drive. But with the 12cm Shark on 5v, a two-slot 5.25 opening is all I need for intake.

As for the Noctua fans, they are excellent undervolted.

Sounds to me like you have an excellent setup. Care to post some pics?

I like your idea of eSata... i might try that myself. esata is hot swappable and boot able right? so i can plug it in when needed?

Unfortunately i only have three bays though... so i'll have to do something with the fan controller in order to get another 120mm in their...

Also you have no exhaust fans with this setup right? air just flows out naturally?

Edit: Oh and you have three PWM fans i see. the CPU ones are obviously on the CPU header with a splitter... What are you using to control them? AI Suite? and what setting to keep them quiet?

Edit2: I checked the back of the mobo... their is an esata connector. It dosent work? Which SATA controller is it using? (i disabled all exept intel one)

Removed cpu 'duct' for now as it serves no purpose at the moment. The noctua is strapped in because with all 4 memory slots up it's not possible to mount a fan there. I'll be doing some more tests with the HR-02 though. With a single 500rpm fan (the AP-11) it CAN safely do 78c max under p95 but it is pretty hot gets down to 70c when i turn on the noctua @ 900rpm. The noctua also reduces the 580 temp by about 10c under load if I have it running. With the scythe fan controller I turn it on @ load.
So far HR-02 seems to be happiest with a single fan (and in my research is the best heatsink on the market with a single low rpm fan).

It needs a bit of prettying up (and I have been doing a bit of that just no new pics) and I'll be removing the hard drive soon.

I love that case. So elegant. And I love what you've done with it.

Is that AP-11 strong enough for you? I have a pair, but they'll be used more for testing an ultra-quiet setup on my D14. I use an AP-12 as the lower front intake on my case.

Do you need an exhaust fan at all? You've got a push fan for your HR-02, and you've got those Penetrators at the bottom of the case.I'd suggest measuring temps with and without the exhaust fan. You might be surprised. At least, I would like to know your results.

I haven't tried the eSATA yet. Looking forward to it, but I'm not sure my DVD drive is set up to use it.

I have three PWM fans on the Akasa PWM splitter. It accommodates three fans. It gets the PWM signal from the cpu fan header, then distributes it to all three fans. It takes the rpm signal from one fan and feeds that back to the mb at the cpu fan header.

The three fans controlled by the pwm signal are the push and pull fans on the heatsink and the top intake fan that feeds most of the cool air to the heatsink. These are the three fans that make the most noise at max - 21 to 24 dB - so they're the ones that most need to slow down when they're not needed. The others I just have set to be quiet all the time.

And yes, no exhaust fan. Quieter that way. Also, the heatsink's pull fan can act as a case exhaust. See item 2 in my sig for a ridiculous example. It's even hilarious, if you're geek enough.

It is quiet enough I am very sensitive to fans and it's definitely enough. Like I said even with just the AP-11 @ 500rpm, the 3 fans in the bottom @ 450rpm I get just under 80c with my 2600k overclocked to 4.4ghz. Which is pretty damn good if you ask me for such low airflow. I plan to buy a couple more AP-11s for experimentation with 3,2 and 1 fan setup on the HR-02. Initial testing with an undervolted scythe 1200rpm slipstream @ around 500rpm didn't seem to make an appreciable difference in temperature. I just figured for now one less fan that is close to my ears the better.
I do plan to get something different than the noctua to turn on for load - partly because it's ugly partly because it's not the best for what it is doing.
But at the end of the day I really only need to turn on the noctua while gaming since even under normal load (encoding) I will never see prime 95 smallFFT temperatures.
I'm also lucky since I reside in a basement in the frozen canadian north.

I have a crazy idea though to make this case inaudible and might be buying a new top cover for that purpose. I love this case/silverstone in general now, immediate response and only 20 bucks for a replacement top cover! I will say however out of the box it's not necessarily made for silence the 3 fans have to be undervolted below their default 700rpm to at least 600 preferably 500rpm. In my estimate though not much airflow is lost and in my system makes not much a difference between 700 vs. 500. Big noise difference though.

Favorite part about this new build/case - keeping the power supply out of the system! It takes 15 full minutes of artificial load to get the fan on my AX850 to even start up. That's just under 400watts from the wall.

Ok thanks. I probably don't even need an exhaust fan then....
Im going to try running my dvd drive on the eSata tomorrow. I'll post my results here...

Also what 120mm fan would you recommend for intake? i prefer blue LEDs and GT's are sold out like everywhere. My current 2x rosewills on a splitter are way to loud (although they move like 160cfms together)

That's quite some system. I think I would be tempted to take your AP-11 and strap that onto your HR-02 as a push fan, and go without any exhaust fan at the top. If you get equal temps with less noise, you win.

Yeah I was actually aiming for getting a slipstream 500 or 800rpm but could find nowhere with stock so i went to the store and bought 1 500rpm gentle typhoon. I will be getting 2 more to experiment with though and see the difference between the typhoon/noctua.
Also if gpu noise ever bothers you and you ever upgrade that 4670 i highly recommend an accelero based solution. I run my 580 passive (bios modded fans 0% min) on a fan profile up to 55c. So at idle my 580 runs passive. The memory chips are fine i've finger tested them even under load they are barely warm.

It depends on where the intake is. For the lower front of my case I have an AP-12 (those are not sold out) at 800 rpm. I light that up with a 5-LED spread. For my upper front intake I use and undervolted Shark with blue LED's. I use that fan because it undervolts so beautifully. Of course, at 12v it makes a lot of noise.

At 12v the Yate Loon D12SL-124B (low speed with blue LED's) is louder, but still quiet. Can't undervolt.

For the side I use a 500 rpm Kaze Maru. The Slip Stream 140 / Kaze Maru 2 is a better fan, though. And of course, there is that TY-140. And the 14cm Shark with LED's also undervolts beautifully. But then there is also the Yate Loon 140mm D14SL-124B - (low speed with blue LED's) quiet, but can't undervolt.

Now that's a great idea. I've been looking at a passive 5750. But your solution would allow a much hotter gpu.
