Temps and fans question

Thread Starter
Little bit of a noob, asking some questions, please bear with me!
My CPU temps are around 39 C - 42 C while idling, and then pick up to 69 C - 74 C when under load (playing a graphics-intensive game).
Is this a normal temperature? I thought that it seemed a little high.
I opened the side of my case to see if that would cool my CPU during load and it did not help.

Secondly, I'm not exactly certain how to go about plugging in fans to my motherboard. There is a few different inputs:
CPU_FAN
SYS_FAN1
SYS_FAN2
PWR_FAN

Obviously the CPU goes in the CPU_FAN input, but currently the others are empty. My case has small switches coming off of the two case fans, that I've been using to turn the fan speed up and down, which doesn't seem to make much of a difference temperature-wise (however it's much quieter if I turn it down). Also, under load, I don't hear a difference of the CPU fan spinning than it would normally... Should I be? Is there a program I can run to see my CPU's fan RPM?
There is a small input that looks like it might fit in one of the SYS_FAN inputs on the end of the PSU rail that is attached to both of my case fans. Should I plug this in (and then be able to control the case fans via software?)

Thanks in advance.

it looks like it might fit, no thats for something else ,your system fans are already giving out 12 volts plugging 12 volts into 12volts isnt the answer. sounds like you got a input and out put fan thats not much air flow.and what kind of heatsink do you have on the cpu

Sorry, your reply is a little vague and hard to understand...
Are you saying I should not have anything in the SYS_FAN inputs?
I am using the stock Intel heatsink.

im saying i have i little plug on the end of my 12 volt rail and i dont think it is for plugging into the sys-fan. be careful because sys-fan1 and 2 are already outputting 12 volts.you could plug 2 more fans into your sys-fan 1 and 2 and use software like aisuite to control them, thats what i do

So I understand that my current case fans are not intended to be plugged into the SYS_FAN inputs, okay.
Can you give me some insight as to whether or not my CPU temps are okay?

The SYS_FAN headers are for plugging case fans into. I have 2 fans on each header. Your temps are high. Is your CPU OC'd (probably not but safer to ask) You should get an after market cooler if you want good temps. To really test load temps, you need to run a proper CPU stress test like CPU Burn. Run one instance per core (in your case 4)

Ah, thanks for that clarification. I will do some rewiring from my PSU and my fans.
My CPU is not overclocked - are these temps normal from a stock cooler? I'll look into getting an aftermarket cooler.

Temps are probably average for stock cooling.

I also recommend a after market cooler, maybe a Cooler master 212 or a cooler master V6 gt as i find the Gt has 2 x 120mm fan on both sides of the heat sink and for oc'ing it works really well but if you want to drop your temps by about 15 or so degree's then i recommend a water cooled system especially if you gonna over clock your 2500. In my experience my other rig has the same cpu and i found it also got rather hot when oc'ing it, even with a after market air cooling so i upgraded to water cooling.
