What are you planning on cooling it with? A 6990 runs fairly hot and is extremely loud. With another 6970 below or on top of it, I would go with another non-ref design 6970 in CF.
There's 7 on there. It will be a tight fit but it should be doable.

I also agree with this. You would almost have to get those cards wet

you'll need some high rpm fans if you're just going with one rx360 to cool a cpu and a 6990+6970: http://forums.pureoverclock.com/showthread.php?t=5559 i am guessing that the total tdp will be >600w and the delta seems to not be so good with one 360mm radiator.

I would add another 240 if i was cooling all that suff.
btw.. the 6990+6970 should be slightly faster depending on the resolution.

At this point, no. But the RX360 is triple rad, so it can handle the 6990+6970, right?

Oh and don't worry, I hope to get 4.7.GHz once i get my XSPC RX360 kit.

I vote for the AMD solution this time around. 3 cards vs 2 is a no brainer and the 6990 is really two 6970s so theirs no restrictions at all!
Exactly this. Nvidia Surround (2D in my experience) can be a bit challenging too but its ultimately up to the game if its supports large resolutions. Nvidia Surround 2D/3D or Eyefinity really are just ways to setup and configure your cards for large resolutions.

If you are going with a single monitor, I would then just go with two 6970 or two 580 1.5 gb.

You would need another rad for that. a 6970 + CPU, the 360 would work. But not with another 6990 thrown in there.

I'd go for the single 30" monitor, the lines between the monitors in eyefinity setup bother me, at least for me, it's a complete waste of money, you won't even be able to see more than the center point of your vision.

And for your CPU, that's a beast, it's an EXTREME EDITION, so make that $900+ worth it. Go for that 4.7Ghz, although I think you'll be able to get just 4.5Ghz, wich is more than enough considering that you have six powerful cores!

Yes, no problems. I'd recommend a push pull 360 rad for 6990+6970+CPU.

That, or grab a 240 for the bottom, and you can use low speed fans on all the rads.

Op a real proper upgrade set up for you (I'm sure you can afford to)

Corsair/Silverstone/LianLi case
3 x 6970 MSI lightning edition
Gigabyte OC x58
Dual top D5
MCP655b x2
RX480 + RX360
Motherboard block
Full cover VGA blocks
XSPC rasa CPU block
Phobia/virus res
Gentle typhoons/Xigamtek fans

There now get those and make a build log.

I guess I wouldn't need to water cool both gpu's, so i could just cool the 6990. Would this be an okay thing to do?
