Mother Board Replacement,

Thread Starter
So, I RMA'ed my Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P as it was giving me some issues...
Gigabyte contacted my saying that the board was found to be faulty and they don't have a direct replacement (FORTUNATELY) And I have to choose another board.

I have an i7 920 do stepping CPU, and I would like to upgrade to 2600k but money is sort of an issue right now....

Should I stay on the 920 or should I upgrade now that I have this gold opportunity?

Is there much difference in performance?

The socket is different right?

Is it intelligent to go to 1155 socket or should I stick with 1366?
Considering I RMA'ed the board and i could choose a new one...

How high was your 920 clocked? Just from glancing at your specs, you could most definitely up the GPU without a bottleneck.

I would probably do that. Sandy Bridge is a faster platform, yes, but I wouldn't be ditching anything 1366 yet if I had one.

I'd clock it to the 4ish range, toss a 570 in there and enjoy.

Is the EX58-UD5 a good motherboard or its an old one? Should I choose one with USB 3.0?

It's a fine board. Do you have any USB3 devices? How much more do they want?

I don't have any, but I might get some.
I'm sort of afraid getting an old board!

Which gigabyte should I get?

Well, the UD5 is an almost $300 board even now, so... it really depends how much more they'd want to swap you a USB3 version.

You could ask for a GA-X58A-UD3R if you want USB 3.0 and SATA 6gbps. They hopefully shouldn't ask for any extra money in return. It's a pretty nice board.
