Possibly a really dumb question

Thread Starter
I snapped up an Asus VG236HE 3D Monitor for less than half price the other day from a company called Brack here in Switzerland without really thinking to clearly (the day deal stats at 9AM and you have to be fast for the good stuff).

So it seems the 3D is only compatible with NVidia cards so I'm considering selling my 2 5850s and investing in an MSI GTX-580 Twin Frozr II 1.5GB.

Now for the dumb question, although my board supports CrossfireX it will still accept one NVidia PCI-E x16 Nvidia card, right? It's only if I tried to run 2 in SLI I would encounter a problem?

Yes you're correct.

They do make SLI Hacks for those Xfire boards that I hear work well.

Yeah it will accept 1 Nvidia card or 2 AMD cards in crossfire.

You can get 3D working with AMD cards. But it's with some 3rd party drivers.

Excellent - thank you for the quick response! I'm not really knowledgable on NVidia cards - is the MSI GTX-580 Twin Frozr II a good buy. Ideally I don't want to have to upgrade for a couple of years.

I paid 349 Swiss Francs ea for them last September. I've no idea the rate of depreciation on GPUs I'll have to look around.

I assume Kelper is the codename of the next gen NVidia GPU?

MSi Twin Frozr are good cards, I have the 570 Twin Frozr, and it's really nice, stays cool, and runs great. Just make sure you have a case big enough to fit it!!

Yes, but it's at least 6 months away. Considering how late Fermi was to the party I wouldn't hold out for it.

IDK the Franc conversion rates, but 5850s are still really nice cards. You should be able to get good value on them.
