Upgrade Advice!

Thread Starter
I’m currently looking to upgrade my soundcard. I have the Creative Audigy 2zs and a pair of Sennheiser 485, and I was wondering if there’s any point in buying a new soundcard. I have a tight budget so I was looking at the Asus Xonar DG. For speakers I use Creative t20 series 2’s. Would I notice any difference? If not can you recommend me the cheapest card that would provide clear improvements? Thanks.

the DG is amazing for the money very cheap yet difference is noticeable due the built-in headphone amp while using your headset
and if you have tight budget no card can beat the DG at that price level (25$)

but what is your budget?
maybe you can find better thing

Thanks for the reply, atm the most I’m willing to go is £50 which is about $80. But that's only if there's going to be an improvement. I listen to a lot of soundtracks, so I don't know how much that helps. But to be frank if the Xonar DG’s are better than the Audigy 2zs, then I’ll be happy to go with those. I was considering the Xonar DS, is there any point just in audio quality?

if it is 80$ try and find Xonar DX or the PCI version the D1

the DS is missing link between the 5.1 DG and the DX so IMO forget the DS unless you are into OP-AMP swapping

I guess you'd get better driver support for Windows 7 with the DG, but I'm guessing that you aren't having any trouble with your old sound blaster. I haven't listened to the 2zs but I wouldn't expect any improvement from the DG unless your headphones needed the amp, but they don't.

Thanks, I'm gonna look into the DG for my rig. Tired of the crappy static/white noise I get from the onboard.

Thanks for the reply’s, and no I’m actually quite happy with my current sound, which sounds quite good. I think on all your advice I’ll save up and upgrade to something more substantial later on. Thanks a lot for the comments.

+rep to the two of you.
