I think you'd be fine with the 300W actually, as long as it's a quality 300W. I really can't see how you'd need more than that with the exact situation you describe in the OP.

Let's estimate your power consumption:
A GTX 260 needs 130 w under gaming load & 2 pcie 6 pin connectors(the 300w PS has none)
your cpu has a tdp of 73W;this includes the IGP.So when gaming it could be using 50W or more
Your mobo & other components should use roughly around 50W

That makes your total power consumption equal to 230W.This is without taking PS efficiency into account.
A 300W PS may provide 240-250W on 12v rails at best.

So the 300W PS is certain to pose severe problems for you from the get-go!
It is absolutely a NO-NO!

Spend $15 more and go for the 450W model.

what does efficiency have to do with it? all that efficiency is good for is lowering your electric bill.

Fooxz, your bigger concern is will the GTX 260 fit in a Silverstone SG05.

The answer is no, unless you mod it. I know people have done that with the SG06, so it might work on the SG05.

Why don't you sell off the GTX 260 and spring for a GTX 460? You'll get a huge boost in performance, while drawing a bit less power. The GTX 460 is also shorter, so it will fit without modification to the case.

The two Silverstone SFX units (300W/450W) are made by FSP. Also, the SFX unit in the mini ITX Fractal Design is made by FSP.

He won't, because he knows that combo will pull a lot more than 100W. Good thing the OP is thinking of a 300W PSU. It will work. The question is for how long, since during gaming it will be near peak (though probably not at peak). My guess is 240-300W from the wall.

You'll be fine with the 300w considering you're not overclocking or pushing the system.

This. a "300w" PSU will make 300w, but may use more from the socket, which is lost to <100% efficiency.

My sigrig's PSU is "USING" 300w from the socket, but may only be making 250 (or less) watts at 85% efficiency. That doesnt mean it cant make more, it can make 550+ watts, but may take 650+ watts from the wall to do so.

Also, I doubt that "Your mobo & other components should use roughly around 50W" maaaaybe 20w or less... and also the GPU will never even get close to 100% usage, so there's no way its going to use 125W. At the most I estimate the system will use 200W on average, without an overclock.

That being said, Im contemplating just going for the 450W so that I will have extra headroom to possibly overclock in the future.

If the 260 will fit was never an issue for me. If I have to mod it, I will mod it. I dont need an optical drive, so that can be snipped right out, if the HDD spot goes along with it, ill mount the HDD to the floor. If a full HDD doesn't fit on the floor, i've got a laptop drive that will fit. I already had the 260, and though a 460 might be nice, I am nearly positive I wont have any issues moding the sugo to fit the 260. And even after modding, it still doesn't fit, then Ill just put my 470 in it, problem solved. (then ill need the 450 for sure )

EDIT: Now i do see that it would be the fan, and not the CD/HDD rack that would be in the way, which still, wont cause an issue, it can be moved. my card is less than 10.5, the case is 10.9, the fan is the only thing that might be in the way to use all of that space. (no idea why they say only 9" cards can fit? :/

Ive got no problems swapping out things for other computers for this computer and vice versa, Im going to be using them interchangeably, so as long as they all work, Im happy.

PSU output is not the same as input. a 300w psu at 80% efficiency outputs 300w, the input from the wall would be about 375w

230watt is perfectly fine on a 300 watt power supply

Any quality 400W+ will do the job.

300W is on the low side. A very high quality 350W might do the job. A Corsair CX430 or Antec EA380D would do the job for sure.

A GTX260 is like a 170W card, ~140W during typical gaming. A bit more with overclocks. CPU is a good 70W, and the rest of the system maybe another 50W. Close to 300W right there during peak consumption, which is too close to the limits of a 300W, especially since most 300Ws are low on the +12V side.

Contrary to public belief, I do endorse headroom. Just not 2x your peak wattage headroom.
