I have static IP so the router shouldn't randomly decide to pick different settings than those entered by me, I hope...

What would booting into safe mode with networking solve? It's obviously NOT a windows issue so I don't know why we're even doing that.

How do you not have access to the cable modem? Is it in a different room or you physically are not able to go up to it? Willing to bet that powering down the cable modem for 30 seconds would be very beneficial.

Why don't you try pinging google dns servers by IP ADDRESS ...

From what I gather his apartment complex has the modem stashed away and has cables going into his apartment that he can connect his router/PC to.

They need to reset the modem, there is no if's ands or buts about it. You can reset your Router to your hearts content and it isn't going to do jack.

The formentioned ipconfig /all and even a release and renew or disabling DHCP or setting DNS manually will not fix your issue.

Solution have the owner of the modem reset it, followed by the actual ISP getting involved, or go get a different ISP is your only solutions.

Precisely.
Sadly I can't switch to any other ISP as my current one is known to be by far the best... You can imagine how bad the others are.

I have managed to "fix" Intel port by assigning it my girlfriends NIC MAC address...

My biggest issue right now is the fact my girlfriend has 100Mbs connection while I'm limited to 10Mbs on either port and it takes good 1-2 min for my ethernet cable to become recognized while hers is up immediately. This happens only with the network cable, if I connect to the router I get 100Mbs and instantaneous access.
What can I do about it? I have tried forcing 100Mbs full duplex but then it just doesn't recognize ethernet cable at all.

Okay, since my internet would only work if set to 10Mbs Full Duplex I thought I'd fiddle some more with router settings and limiting WAN port speed to 10Mbs actually makes everything work again...

Right now we're connected like this, is router supposed to work with internet at 10MBs HALF duplex?

We also have 2 phones over WiFi that seem to run at 6/3Mbs.
The place where my ethernet cable comes from appears to be a switch (definitely looks like one), although I'm clueless when it comes to networking so it could be something else.

Now, I'm supposed to be getting 30Mbs download and 20MBs upload within country and 5Mbs upload internationally, which is what I was getting before all of this started. I'm obviously missing out on the speed, but seeing as we're moving out in a month and 10Mbs is sufficient for what we're doing, I will just sit on it for now and hope new place doesn't run into such problems.


Is there any reason why internet refuses to work at anything but 10Mbs HALF duplex while connected to router, and 10Mbs FULL duplex while connected directly, all of it happening since I unplugged everything but ethernet cables during thunderstorm a week ago?
