new AMD Build

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Just ordered a bunch of items for a new AMD build. Let me know what you think. I know bulldozer is around the corner but I don't really have the budget to buy a brand new chip. But I did get the Crosshair IV which will supposedly support the upgrade. Hopefully everything will arrive by Friday so I can start the build this weekend. Also wanted to build a semi quiet PC. I read that the HAF X case is pretty quiet and I went with Noctua NF-P12 fans as replacement for the H70 stock fans. Going to try and sleeve everything UV red with UV Cathodes. I'll post pics / OC results after I complete the build. Might need some help with the OC.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition

Heatsink: Corsair H70 & 2 Noctua NF-P12 120mm Fans

Mobo: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula

Case: Cooler Master HAF X Case & extra 200mm Fan for Top

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Vid Card: XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970 2GB (Probably going to get another next month for crossfire)

PSU: CORSAIR HX Series 1000w

HD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Looks like a solid build. Maybe consider a SSD for the OS since it looks like you have the cash to do it.
I think with what you just spent on this build you could have easily gotten BD, but that's beside the point now. The build is solid. I'd say the HDD is your one lacking department, but that's easy enough to add into!

Have fun building!

maybe after a few more paychecks ill consider a SSD, this really maxed out my finances. Ending up going for a WD 500gb 6.0gb/s SATA that only cost $60. Tried to save money where I could.

Looks good except for the last two things. There is absolutely no need for that power supply you can get away with a 750 watt for XFire 6970s. The Caviar Black series is rather over priced IMO. I would go with the 1tb Samsung F3. It is the fastest 7200 RPM drive and beats out the 1tb Caviar Black. Also they are around the same price.

Yea I was wondering about the PSU I had read that you needed a minimum of 750 for crossfire and I didn't want to be cutting it close. Oh well, incase I need to jump start my car i'll be prepared.

Could have saved on the PSU as VW says, but a PSU is one thing you shouldn't skimp on, so, nice build.

Woah is that the $230 one?

Yeah I used to be misinformed on that too, I would go with the item's listed wattage and some wattage needed calculator's. All of those will put you much much higher than need be.

I'm pretty sure a 750w gold class will give enough juice for 2 6970's with relative ease.

so I've gotten a bunch of the parts for the build, still waiting on GPU, memory and HD's in the mail.

Here are some photos of the build.

Took the rear 140mm fan and stuck it in the optical drive cage for extra intake.

I also have to do some better cable management / sleeving

Also have 2 of the CM 200mm LED fans coming to replace the top fan and window fan so they will all be the higher quality CM red 200mm LED fans.
