Thread Starter
Ok, so I got a new job thats paying big bucks and looking at a little upgrade..

I'm shopping for a graphics solution. I have $480CAD to spend.
I'm looking at maybe 2x2GB GTX460's, 2x1GB GTX560's, a single GTX580 or ??
Maybe someone can give a a better suggestion?

I already have the following:
i5-2500k
Gigabyte Z68X-UD4
G.Skill 8GB 1600mhz
120GB Vertex 2
Dell U2211H

The two 560's will outperform a 580, but by negligible margin. I say go with a single 580. It's less power and you only have to worry about 1 card, SLI is also not supported in every single game and even if it is in a game, it can still cause issues and invoke microstuttering.

For a single screen, any of those is fine. Are you considering 560 TIs or just regular 560s?

Generally speaking (in terms of raw performance) SLI 560s > SLI 460s >= 580

For a 1080p screen you really don't need 2GB VRAM though.

You can't run NV surround off a single GPU, so if you're considering surround, then you'll probably want to go with a 3GB 580 and SLI it later.

Go with the 580! Not all games and software support SLI, plus setting it up can sometimes be a hassle. A 580 is the right choice here...

Don't need to waste that much money on the 580.

For 1080p, you don't need 2GB Vram

however, the extra 2800mhz Vram from the 570 will be very much helpful when you start pumping the eye candy.

Get the 570 non reference design, and OC it, save the extra cash for something else. You won't be disappointed IMO.

This^, if your looking for the performance right away then the 2 560ti's would be the better option. I know many will say one card solution is the best then you have the chance to upgrade, but my arguement is, how many games do you reckon will come out that will not be enough for 560ti's in SLI? But if your looking to to buy one card now then another later then i'll recommend getting the 580. But for now go for 1gb 560ti SLI.

Unless your planning Nvidia surround or will be upgrading from your current res anytime soon then getting a power single card is a good idea, however, like myself, I don't think I'll be moving up from 1080p anytime soon and in SLI my 460s are quite beastly, no need to change my setup for another 2/3 years maybe. So imagine what 560ti's in SLI overclocked can do lol just my 2cents.

I do plan on upgrading to nv surround in the near future. Maybe not 2 other dell ultra-sharps, but certainly 2 other 1080 monitors. I think maybe I'll go for a MSI GTX570 TF3 and get another when I get the 2 extra monitors. Will that 1.2GB be enough for 3 monitors?

I actually have $4000 to spend, but I'm limiting what I spend on computers haha I also have $4000 a month to frivolously spend, so I'll definitely be upgrading big time in the next little while.
