Feel me?
When I was a child my Mother would just ask me to get to a point where I could save and then do what she asked... and then I would save and do what she asked, then returned to said save.

The only games that have kept somewhat true to the old school are jrpg's. Final Fantasy went bad once it turned mmo. All of them up to 10-2 are good, with 13 being the most recent good FF game.

I like how back in the day games were released ready to play. Every release now is patch city.
Or it auto saves when you have a crack in your mask and you're 5 seconds from dying .

To me, Gaming started to decline from 2001, sure there are some exceptions but most are losing in terms of difficulty, story/lore, replayability, and fun factor.

Anyone here played Far Cry 1?
Playing that on "realistic" difficulty was pretty nightmarish.
When the mutant things came in and you couldnt save the game.
And no health regen, but good old healthboxes.

Far Cry 1 was probably the only "hardcore" game I have played,as I am a new gamer.

I tried that recently. I thought I'd stand no chance, as even Medium (the second in like five tiers) was hard. I think I finished it on the standard Hard (the third of five) at most years ago, if that (might've even been just the Medium one). Well, I did better than I thought. I got to the beginning of the night level. In the beginning, with all of the mercenaries in the woods, I couldn't do it. I kept trying, and didn't have the patience. Every time I'd kill more than the last time and I swear there would keep coming more no matter what. It was ridiculous. I still want to try it someday, but I know there's a few parts (the rails part of Swamp, the end of the Factory level where Val arms the nuke, and the two parts at the end of the Regulator level).

Theres a lot of difficult parts in that game.
Like the Dam mission where its you with no gun vs mutants.
And the last mission, urgg.. :S
Even the first level wasnt so easy, took me a few tries to take over the merc camp, and then the bit in the boat with the chopper.
And dont get me started with the massive rocket launcher mutants lol.

It was a pretty long game, 20 missions and each one took a hefty amount of time to complete. Thats another thing, in 16 years games have become shorter.

EDIT:The trick to the night level, use the suppressed mp5 on semi auto, always go for headshots and PRONE!!

EDIT2: I love these sorts of games where you want to chuck your PC out of the window everytime you die lol.

That was definitely a thought that occurred to me playing through Far Cry again recently. I was sure I was nearing the middle end, and nope, I was about halfway through, if that!

The advent of casual games that's what happened! Have to make all the games so the avg person can pick up and play it, and have success as it.

Ya I dream of the days you would pick up a game and die 50 times then go oh theres the secret wall! Those days are gone I fear.
