Q9300 Problems

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
First off, let me say hello to everyone! I love this site and have learned so much from hours of reading others posts and guides so thanks to all! Anyway, I am having problems with my machine locking up and was looking for a little help. I am new to overclocking but have read lots of the newb guides posted here and done a lot of research so hopefully I'm not asking questions to soon. My problem is that my computer locks up to where I have to do a hard reset every now and then whenever I'm playing games or even just watching youtube videos. My setup is as follows :

Mobo = Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

CPU = Intel Q9300

RAM = 8GB (4x2GB) OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066 pc8500

OS = Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

My CPU is overclocked to 3.0GHz and my RAM is underclocked to 800mhz with timings of 5-5-5-15.

If anyone can give me some pointers or if I need to add some more info please let me know. Even links to more newbie guides that I haven't read is appreciated Thx for your time.

P.S. Hopefully this is in the right forum.

Exactly the same as you. 400 x 7.5 with voltage at 1.28. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to go higher. Took me long enough to get it to 3.0 lol

P.S. @ Gerroffme, when I click those links, they seem to just take me to the home page of Overclock.net. Am I doing something wrong?

Ok just an update, I upped the cpu voltage to 1.28125 and added +0.1 to the FSB and +0.2 to the north bridge and so far so good. I haven't had a single lock up or BSOD since. Hopefully that was the problem. I still can't seem to figure out how to get this chip any higher than 3Ghz though, no matter how high I set the voltages or change the multipliers. Guess I have some more reading to do. Thanks to both of you for the help.
