Q9550 Temp/Performance

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
How is everyone today? We finally got some blue skys over here in eastern canada.

I am an amateur overclocker, my last system didnt allow much for overclocking. But ive been tinkering (with the help of my friend BlueLights), and have achieved 3.6ghz on my q9550. That doesnt seem to be the issue, i have several temp monitoring programs, Coretemp, HW monitor and Realtemp read cores #0 and #1 as 49 degrees idle (roughly), and cores #2 and #3 are reading at 37 degrees. This is the first decent system i've owned, and got it for a supreme price. I have a Hyper 212 for aftermarket cooling (not push pull yet). But as of right now, im running this on top of the motherboard box (cant afford a case yet, i got the call that its in today though). Just wondering what could possibly be causing it. I have already reseated, with no change.

I have noticed too, that running IBT sometimes yields drastically different results (42GFlops down to 30 - 32).

Here is my CPU-Z validation: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1845786

Just wondering what your thoughts might be?

What are your load temps? Those are the important ones to look at.

Right off the bat though, 49C idle seems pretty high.

I forgot. AI Suite shows about 59 under loadCoretemp, Realtemp and hw monitor show max load for cores 0 and 1 is about 70 under load, and the other two say 62

Not sure which program to believe. AI suite seems to match what my bios says is my idle (25 degrees). But the other 3 all read the same high temps.

Use CoreTemp program to read core temperatures..

Keep core temperatures under 75C at all time..

Keep Vcore & vFSB/VTT under 1.40V at all time..

CHEERS..

core 0 will usually be higher because it is running your os in the background and as for the glfop dont really worry about them. they are not real world proformance values. but in that sense your gflops will be higher with a higher vcore and a little bit lower with a lower vcore.

when i had my 9550 on a p5qc i was able to hit 4.28 at/around 1.4 vcore depending on your vid and your ram. you will have to underclock your ram to hit anything over 4ghz. and temps will not be an issue until you are around 75 80c. MAX if i remember correctly is 90 for 45nm. idle temps do not mean anything only your load temps and your loaded vcore are all that matter.

listen to kingt he troubleshot with me all the way to 4.3
post #7 of 13
idle temps dont matter much tbh, in part as their accuracy drops as they get away from the tjmax and in part because they stick. my q9550 has 3 of the 4 core sensors that stick for eg.

now you are going to stuggle imo and while you could i dont think you will get much past 3.8ghz on a voltage that your able to run 24/7. this is because you need a bit more voltage to run 3.6ghz than mine but also because of your chips revision. its the early c1 rev which ran hot and didnt clock as well as the later e0 revision

these were my 9550 that were rock steady. you must remember that everything board, chip, ram will oc differently so user beware. when you approarch 1.4vcore adequate cooling is a MUST

I'de just like to know my real temperatures, if ai suite is correct, then i still have room to go temp wise.
