Having owned two iPod touches and having spent a fair share of time with an iPhone 4, I must say that I really don't enjoy the whole experience with iOS(Fully jailbroken and customized of course).
HOWEVER, I must say that the screen and camera are really quite exceptional, my Nexus One has an AMOLED display and even it can not match the crispness and sheer resolution of the Retina Display. The camera on it in quite decent as wall, in terms of quality of a mobile device it is quite "up there", second only to devices like the Nokia N8 which feature Carl Zeiss glass.
While ergonomically, I find the iPhone quite uncomfortable, the build quality is unmistakably superior to many other plasticy feeling phones, as is the case with all of apple's products.
Hardware wise, I would say it is adequate, with iOS being the limiter here, a faster CPU or dual core won't really be beneficial towards day to day usage.

Androids at stock are average at best . Most phones are full of bloatware which slows down the phone causing lag and stuttering. You need a custom rom to get rid of all the bloatware .
iOS > Android at stock .
The only one i know which is stock stock android is the Nexus S .
You're confusing android preloaded with crap like touchwiz(on samsung) and Sense(HTC) to actual stock/vanilla android like on the Nexus One/Nexus S.
I do agree that android bloated with crap is really not that much better than iOS though.
You can always flash back to stock android if the bootloader is unlocked anyhow.
Difference here is that you can't do anything about the software on iPhones.Edited by PhaedraCorruption - 5/31/11 at 5:50pm
