First AMD build.

Thread Starter
I like how AMD wont hurt my wallet as bad as Intel and i used the X4 840 Phenom II in my server and i like how it has been doing so i decided to build my next rig with AMD. These are the parts that i have been thinking about getting. (I am using the newegg descriptions from their site.)

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

ASUS EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5 Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBRL

Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I dont need a new PSU because i just bought a new 700W one about 6 months ago and i will be using my original case so that is good.

I want to set up a RAID 0 with 2 of the Crucial SSDs and i have never done this before. Also i have never overclocked an AMD CPU so that will be new.

If any one has used any of the parts i am considering i would like to hear your opinion on them also. I should be building this when i get back from vacation in 10 days so i am pretty stoked on this and i will probably be doing a costume case mod since my last build was blue and this one is going to be red. I could use some input on a good after market cooling because i have not been able to find one that looks good that is red.

Unless you're gonna be running a bunch of virtual machines are photoshop or CAD or similar intensive programs, 16GB of RAM is a bit of overkill. As for the CPU, that's a nice one, but if you can be patient, Bulldozer is almost here, and it might be a good idea to wait and see how it does. Even if you don't get Bulldozer, its release might drop the prices of the Phenoms. As for the CPU cooler, what's your budget?

I was thinking the same thing about the price drop for the Phenoms. I love Asus so that was a good suggestion usedpaperclip. I would like to keep the cooler around 30 to 50 if it is air.

I use my pc for everything from crazy games to photoshop to programming and i have lots of media. It may be overkill right now but it will be changing soon when i start getting deeper into computer science and graphics and i want it to last me a while.

For an air cooler on that budget I would go with a CM Hyper 212+.

I was kinda thinking of spending a little extra and going with the CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler

How do you like the crosshair IV formula though?

I love AMD,
but I'm sorry to say that you won't be impressed with 1100t,
spend it on a i5 2500k which oc much much better & is a better cpu overall,
for the mobo pick asus p8z68v pro/gigabyte z68x ud4

You don't need 16gb ram,its a complete waste,so get 8gb ram insted.
Hope you like my suggestion.
Note: a 1100t oc upto 4.2ghz at max while 2500k oc to 5ghz,when both are oc'd the 2500k beats 1100t

It's a great board. A good overclocker. I like the abundance of fan headers too. The H50 will serve you well, especially if you do a little tweaking and add some push/pull fans and shrouds.

Yeah Sandy Bridge is the best bang for buck atm, but I would still advise you wait for Bulldozer since it's not too far away.
