New set of cans for gaming

Thread Starter
Well I think its time for some new headphones for FPS Gaming. They will mainly be used for gaming so good directional sound is a must. I will also use them for listening to Trance, House, Dub-Step, Hip-Hop, Country (i listen to a wide variety of music. I also prefer a Closed back headphone as i like to play very late at night with high volume.

I really like the look of A700/A900, DT880, SRH840 but id like a second opinion before i drop the cash. I'm currently running a Asus Xonar Essence ST as an amp but down the road in a year or 2 ill probably get a DAC.

id like to stick to the previously mentioned can's as there readily available close to home.

trance-house-dub step-hiphop - bass wanted
country (wow thats an eclectic taste) - mids wanted for vocals i guess
gaming - soundstage wanted

beyerdynamic works great for that as does the ultrasone line.
i'd lean more towards the beyerdyanmics DT880 as you've mentioned for the wider soundstage for gamng myself though they would require an amplifier (i probably really should know whether the onboard headphone amps can run them or not seeing as how they're pretty much the medium budget de facto recommendation for gaming... but alas i do not, i'd recommend asking that at www.head-fi.com or waiting for me to reply back about the capability before deciding)

Smart choice. DT880s would be the best choice as Kyle responded.
