Littledot MKIII over STX amp for DT880 600?

I'm thinking of buying a Littledot MKIII amp for my DT880 (600 ohm) as I read that the headphone amplifier on the essence STX is on the thin line of sufficiently powering these headphones to their full potential.

Is there truth to that? Should I buy the littledot for 200ish$ and would it offer me a nice sound upgrade?

Yes, the Little Dot will most definitely be an upgrade over the STX amp. Plus, it will add some tube warmth to the otherwise flat signature of the DT 880.

Alright thanks all...wasn't expecting a consensus! Yes the mid warming of the MK3 for the DT880 makes it a good combo. I just wasn't sure it justified 200 extra dollars, the more I research the more I see its the right choice.

While the MKIII is the better amp, you should sell your STX and buy a better DAC. You may not see a performance difference you're happy with if you're using the STXs DAC still.

I see I see...and I also realize that I would lose the "goodies" of the STX like Dolby if I would buy a standalone amp and solely use it. Not that its a big loss, but I shall mourn (a bit) lol...

If you're still using the STX as a DAC, you get to keep all those things like dolby.
