Looking for sound card

Thread Starter
So I am in the market for a sound card after using on-board audio for all my life. I a currently using Altec Lansing VS4121 speakers and (don't kill me) Beats Pro. I am trying to sell my Beats to buy a good pair of cans, but getting a sound card first. From what I see, the Xonar DX seems like the way to go, but wanted to post on here and ask for input before pulling the trigger.

Also, what is the noticeable difference between the DX and DG, since there is such a large price difference, just wondering if it's worth it. Thanks a lot!

The DG is amazing for the money cheap , has a built-in headphone amp incase you are going to use any headset then it will shine with the DG , but its only 5.1 channals and its PCI
The DX on the other hand is also amazing if you are really into music/movies , its PCIe and 7.1
Both cards are great ,So its all about the money you got , no problem spending money get the DX
Personally i think the DG will do perfectly but people usally say to go with PCIe cards incase you got 2 GPUs to run so in many cases the cover all the PCI slots

The DX is slightly better. It's difficult to place a price on it. If you're asking me whether the Xonar DX is worth the 3x price of the DG, it's not.

But if you're willing to pay all that extra money, you will see slight improvement over the DG.

If you can get the Xonar DX for under full blown retail, you're in business. Paying full retail is rough for a Xonar DX imo. It's priced appropriately at under 70.

Still would have gone with the DG. Its headphone amp would benefit you more than the extra nothing you get from the DX.
