What if PC Gaming lead the Gaming Industry.

Thread Starter
I haven't done any gaming on PC since my gaming laptop died a year ago. Since then i've been busy with studies so haven't had time saving up for a new rig.

In the abscence of my laptop I bought a PS3 with a number of games that were recommended. At times I've played a game on it when sometimes some aspect would slightly bother me, but then that thought would quickly be stifled with "let me just carry on, it may get better". For example I'd play a fresh new game I've never played before and I always find some aspect that would make me think, if this was design for PC this aspect could be enhanced so much, or this would have so many more features on PC...

Tonight however, I've exploded and can't seem to contain the disappointment at how 'dumbed' gaming has become. Since most games now are designed for console gamers in mind I'd say the shallowness of games are due to consoles (or their gamers mindset). Even so I sorely miss PC gaming.

So here's a thought: If the tables turned and PC gaming lead the gaming Industry rather than consoles (by that I mean PC gaming was the most popular form of gaming and all game developers catered for the PC audience first and foremost). How would that change games that are currently out now? What sort of implications would that have on the face of gaming industry? What sort of future would there be with game development with PC leading? And how do you think the attitudes of game developers and publishers would be today?

Just brainstorm

Games would run better on PC meaning you wouldn't get 25 FPS in Dragon Age 2 with a 580. (They fixed that problem already, but It was a problem for about 2-3 weeks after launch.)

Piracy has an effect on consoles as well...Maybe not as large as on a PC, however it's there..

I'd be more poor than I already am, and OCN would be having foodstamp promo's instead of keyboard promo's.

I was trying to think of any negative effects... But I failed... The games would be better, better designed, better technology etc... And even the console crowd would benefit more since a dumb downed but high tech PC game would still be better than console games...

The only thing I guess could happen is that developers get less sales since PC gamers wont accept not so new games every single year... But if developers actually put effort into their titles which would be required if PC gaming was by far the most popular then this wouldnt be a problem anyway...

I hate this attitude that consoles or console gamers are responsible for dumbing down video games. The only person to blame for an inadequate gaming experience is the dev. studio, and, by extension, the publisher. There are plenty of AAA games on consoles made by companies that care about the finished product more than the bottom line. Many games can be made multi-plat and not suffer in the process, but the studio has to care enough to do so, which means less revenue but a product that retains its integrity.

To your point - either way, a subsection of the gaming community would suffer. If a game is made for PC first and then sloppily ported to consoles, console gamers get shafted. If a game is made for consoles first and then sloppily ported to PC, PC gamers get shafted. The moral of that story is it's up to the dev. studio to put the effort into porting their games with some thought to how they'll run on each unique medium.

One day I rented Army of Two for the Xbox 360. Once I got to this tutorial:

I returned it the next day. I refuse to play a game that treats me like I'm some idiot. Yea, I know it's a tutorial but the concepts shown in it should be common sense.

Sorry to say this, but most, if not all these games were made for really "dumb people".
