What if PC Gaming lead the Gaming Industry. - Page 4

To be honest PC gaming will never win in market share. Consoles are just so much more accessible.

All updates are automatic.
All software available for the system run on the system.
It's usually cheaper and you know what you're getting.
Consoles are also more family friendly. 2-4 players in the lounge room for family fun.
Less accessible pirated material.

I'm a die hard PC gamer, but i can realise the benifits of gaming on a console, even more so for people who don't give a crap about what's in their PC and just want things to work. I'm the only Pc gamer of all my mates unfortunatyl.

You know, there actually was a golden age in gaming? Both PC/console coming out with original and innovative titles. Some of the greatest games came out on the console which I am proud to be a part of. Now, this period is long gone.

All we have now are repeats. There are first person shooters/third person shooters set in a linear or sandbox style (most common), sports or racing. There's no originality being offered from these companies and they expect people to pay $60 right off the bat. Sorry, I'll stick with PC gaming since there's more promising titles.

But, I think gaming in general is slowly dying. Very much like todays movies. There's no "substance" or "magic" in many of these games coming out today unfortunately.

That's a bleak attitude and I, for one, will never adopt it, no matter how many disappointments I suffer. The film industry is a good parallel, but the same is true of most popular artistic mediums. For every quality movie that gets made you have 20 garbage movies like The Hangover 2. But there's still that 1 in 20, and if we get just 2 or 3 good ones a year, that's enough to keep the dream alive. How many completely worthless books have been foisted upon the literate public, published only because they conform to a genre that's popular at any given time? But for every James Fry, duping Oprah and all her minions, there is a Tom Wolfe or a Raymond Carver - intelligent writers catering to an intelligent audience. The music industry is the same way. The gaming industry is the same way. There is substance and magic and yes, it's rare, but if you know how to spot it, you'll never want for good games, good movies, good books or good music.

As you said , its there , but its not going to be there anymore if they don't make any money from the dubious "HURR DURR" crowd.

Games would be MUCH better looking, there would be less games and less developers but quality > quantity.

Problem is, the number of special titles are dwindling as each year goes by. If there weren't so many gullible people, I think the entertainment business would have been more focused on quality rather than quantity.

The only person to blame for an inadequate gaming experience is the dev. studio, and, by extension, the publisher. There are plenty of AAA games on consoles made by companies that care about the finished product more than the bottom line. Many games can be made multi-plat and not suffer in the process, but the studio has to care enough to do so, which means less revenue but a product that retains its integrity.

To your point - either way, a subsection of the gaming community would suffer. If a game is made for PC first and then sloppily ported to consoles, console gamers get shafted. If a game is made for consoles first and then sloppily ported to PC, PC gamers get shafted. The moral of that story is it's up to the dev. studio to put the effort into porting their games with some thought to how they'll run on each unique medium.
Console makers are responsible for the dumb down, because game makers won't make a game that consoles can't handle, because what's the point, they won't make money, and the console makers won't bother.

If it runs on the console well, non of the pc gamers are happy because it must mean the game is just not good enough. I don't know many games that were two separate things for the console and the pc, actually I don't know any.

The thing with consoles is you can't upgrade them, if consoles were computers the companies would be rich and the gamers would be living on the street, there isn't a problem like this with computers. The pc gamers won't move to the console gaming because there is no point. The console gamers won't move to the pc gaming because they think they are better, they think that their junk is better, they think that console gaming is cheaper(which it isn't).

All in all, it is the console gamers fault because instead of "We want new consoles for better games" or Moving to the pc gaming, they say "We want better games so we can have better games without buying a new console"...but that's impossible, and that is the thing stopping the games, they don't understand how it work. The devs could make super-awesome games only pc could handle but they won't because they need food too.
