Hows the Q6600 in 2011? - Page 2

My rig can run SC2 on ultra settings @ 1900x1200 smoothly. 60 FPS throughout. A Q6600 is more than enough.

Runs GTA 4 good at stock with a mid-range GPU at 30+ fps.

Well since the rig I mainly play on is almost identical stats to your PC I might have to try upping the settings to ultra!

Hay there, I hope I am posting in the right place.
I have a Q6600. Just wondering what is the max speed of RAM it can take?

Is it 1066mhz or 1333mhz?
And if the limit is 1066 can it be pushed up with OCing?

The reason I am asking is that I am looking to upgrade my ram and motherboard to handle HD3870x2 in crossfire. My current motherboard can only handle SLI.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The Ram is Motherboard dependant, not CPU. And unless you have the 3870x2 on hand consider Nvidias GPUs and fold on them

I have the 3870's. So if the motherboard was the following ASUS P5E3 Premium for example, I would be able to get any of the following Compatible RAM:ddr3 1600/133/1066/800?

If the Q6600 is on the CPU support list ........ Yes

Remember also most mb's can support memory thats not listed ..... but its not guaranteed.

My P5b Deluxe wifi supports 800 mhz memory per the site, but i've had memory faster than that in it

In the below image I had overclocked 800 mhz memory to 900 mhz

It is. Thats great thanks. One finial question. Would you recommend 32 or 64 bit. I would be gaming on it. I am wondering for the ram, to go above 4gb or not? Would there be any noticeable increase in performance if I went for 64 bit?

I just helped a friend get his Q6600 to 3.4 GHz. We were starting to get temps of 65C with Prime 95, so we didn't push it any further. He needs to reapply some TIM as it has been a couple years, so we are hoping temps will come down a bit.
