What cooler is he using? Does he have good case air flow ?

64 bit and 4 gigs is what I use and seems to be a sweet spot. I had 8 gigs but didn't notice a difference when dropping to 4 gigs

Im still using mine on 2.4ghz, Its a great CPU, love it to bits!

Going to upgrade towards the end of this year though to an AMD X6 CPU, CFX mobo. Give the Q6600 to my secondary PC

A Six core HD6950 and a Quad core GTX 460 PC. Will be fairly nice.

I've had my Q6600 @ 3.2 ghz since I bought it used. Very stable and does a great job with the XFX 5770 1 gig. Encodes fast and games nicely. Have bid on several Q6600 on ebay to try to replace the E6400 in my gaming pc but the prices seem to be too high for my blood.

I am considering a Phenom II x4 build to replace my E6400

When I had my Q6600 not so long ago I found it to perform on par with the higher end cpu's in gpu intensive games. However in applications like bc2 it really got bogged down and couldnt maintain the golden 60fps minimum with my 5870, the cpu is very old and i decided it was time for an upgrade. However even though it is an older model cpu it still kicks @$$ and in ur case its even better because it is free. If u can clock it to 3.6 it will play every game without a hitch, just not on max settings at high res. Hope this helped!

I myself just got a given a Q6600 to replace my E6400, as long as you get 3.4-3.6ghz out of it, it shouldnt have any trouble at that rez, provided you pair it with a decent vidcard.

Someone want to give me a q6600?
My q6600 go rev last quite a while. It was great for gaming paired with my gtx 280 and most recently a hd5870. I just upgraded to the i5 2500k. I use it in my server now and it handles everything with ease. I'm too much of a speed freak, if I wasn't the q6600 would last me a few more years. Mine was over clocked to 3.7
