Asus REIII problem help?

Thread Starter
I seem to have a weird problem. after reappling tim on my cpu(took out cpu and reseated) my memory channels are all messed up. I had 6x2gb installed before, but now it seems that the only way i can get it to work is only have ram in channels a1/b1. If i have ram in a1/b1/c1(red one's) slot the system will only see 2gb as installed.

I can't get it to boot with any other memory combo beside channels a1/b1, but once it boots up it work fine, as i can run all app/play games and currently writing this on said machine.

what could the problem be? or is a rma needed.

You may have tightened down your h50 too much. If you are crushing your socket it can cause the problems you are having. Try to loosen the h50 evenly a bit. See if that helps.

There has been issues where heat sink back plates are touching the RAM fittings on the back of the board.

+1 re mount everything. For quick testing you can even just hold the heatsink on by hand.

Sounds like to torqued it down too much. Can you take a picture if you still need more help on it. so we can see what is going on with the back plate?

h50 backplate is plastic i think. i will try loosing the screws.

but i took the h50 off and put it back on prolly 5 times now. but each time i did torque the screw kinda tight.

reseated the cpu and loosen screws on the h50 and was able to get it to read all all 3 ram sticks for a total of 6gb. the problem is when i get into windows and try to run ibt it will either restart or freeze.

once i remove the third stick of ram i'm able to run ibt with no problem. currently running ibt and typing this but only with 2 sticks of ram.

anyone else with any ideas? if not i will be contacting asus tomorrow for a rma.

I would run memtest86+ and check the memory out also. I mean you could have a bad memory slot on the board or a bad stick of ram possibly also.

now it is just being stupid. it read both stick but only 2gbs are avil? same thing in bios only 2gb.

but cpu-z,aida all show that there are 2 slot filled.

This is also a good readme, if you haven't read it before.
