[Thinq] AMD hits last minute delay with Bulldozer - Page 14

The 900 series boards are absolutely inno way different then the 800 series with the exception of native SLI support and bulldozer ready. Many 800 series boards will support BD with bios update. So if they released the board and chip at the same time I could see many folks just buying the chip to see what its like before buying the board. This way many people may already have the board when BD arrives.
That's an optimistic way of looking at it.

Or, some people are simply going with Sandy Bridge.

BD is not competing with Intel's high end, they are competing with Sandy Bridge which is available now.

I gave Bulldozer 6 months already for my 2nd rig, I can't wait anymore.

2600K here I come.

Right now, best case scenario for Bulldozer is that it will match Sandy Bridge. Why wait for something that you can already get your hands on today?

Well your free to do what you want but bulldozer isnt even suppose to be out yet. Its not like it keeps getting pushed back like Intel always does. Yet Intel is a larger company and you kind of expect stuff like that but still.

they arent up to par performance wise. They need to make sure they at least match sandy's performance before it is release, or consumers will lose confidence in them.

I haven't used or built a Intel based PC since the Pentium III 1.1ghz days. I was hoping it would have been on time because i have everything else i need to upgrade except for the Mobo/CPU.

It's more disappointing that Bulldozer is delayed then me being upset, although i am glad Llano is on time (they know where most of the money to be made is) because i look forward to picking one up.

Also, since i have everything for upgrade i need except Mobo/CPU i will go to MC and get a 2500k for $179 when i head back down that way again just is too go a deal to pass up.
Intel has done with 1155 what AMD has done in the past price/performance and future upgrading of next CPU's. It is really hard to ignore this, But i do still hope bulldozer will be very good as I'm sure it will be.

Since those review sites did know what they were talking about when they revealed there was a delay, if they are working on a new stepping, it makes sense for a 60 - 90 day delay.

I'm confused though....

By now, they should've already fabbed a lot of processors ready for retail, what's going to happen to all those processors?

If they need a new stepping how long is it going to take to:

A) Produce the new stepping
B) Fab those processors
C) Get them to market.

It doesn't sound like it's a simple BIOS adjustment that needs to be done.

This isn't like the Sandy Bridge recall where there was nothing wrong with the processors, and only the motherboards needed an updated chipset.

What are you talking about?

What is Intel pushing back? Ivy Bridge?

Do you realize that Ivy Bridge would be 3 generations ahead of AMD?

Sandy Bridge launched on the date given.

Core i7 1st gen launched on time.

SB-E will launch Q4, and I guarantee you it will be on time.

Are you aware that Bulldozer was originally supposed to launch in 2009?

Get your facts straight about who is getting delayed and pushed back.

The worse part about this delay is that when asked just days ago if any of the rumors of a delay were true AMD officials claimed that their roadmap had not changed (meaning Q2 launch). They knew at the time the release wasn't happening until as late as September (Q3) so they basically just lied their butts off. And all the AMD fanboys around here just ran around calling everybody else trolls for reporting the TRUTH about BD's true release date. If anything AMD were the trolls for reporting false info....

To be honest one of the reasons I do not want a 2500K is because it seems like everyone has one. Even on this AMD topic if you look at peoples sigs you see 2500K left and right, even more so in other threads. Think i just want something a little different.
