[Thinq] AMD hits last minute delay with Bulldozer - Page 25

That was cheap.
But I don't mind waiting, no games to really push it. The only problem is that the BD could have been quite a CPU to contest Intel with. The window is closing.

Correct. However it would have been released on a 45nm Process. The delays from 2009 to 2010 are due to the transition from a 45nm Process to a 32nm Process. By Fall 2010 Samples of Bulldozer were available. Then we had another delay in CAL-Q1 when Bulldozer was postponed possibly due to Chipset issues but the information is vague.

LMAO at all of this. I said WAIT AND SEE what BD has to offer, and it gets delayed. People that are selling their stuff off to get this or whining that they are going to SB just keep your digital pie holes shut please. DELAYS HAPPEN. Sheesh, you think that BD was the next best thing since sliced bread. The delay for me means more time to save up for it!!! Muhwahaha

I sold my board/CPU for BD and the 990FX boards are coming within 29 days, according to AMD, so I'll just get a cheap AM3 CPU and wait until the CPUs come out.

So true, they missed Tocks & Ticks in between.

45nm BD of 2009 would've competed with Core i7.

32nm BD in time to compete with SB.

I guess Intel's Tock / Tick principle isn't so crazy afterall, they keep going at it like clockwork.

Imagine what Haswell will be like?

Well, if you're waiting to save up pennies to get BD, shouldn't you too keep your digital pie hole shut? Why are you allowed to tell others what your plans are?

For those of us who rather not wait, we are going to share what direction we're headed, and what our new builds and upgrades will consist of.

If you click that link, that means you're interested in what we're upgrading to, if you don't, you'll never know.

Disappointing setback, but hopefully the end product will be better for it. Looking forward to see how this turns out.

It also leaves a lot more room for failure; releases aren't as important/substantial as the changes that were made with BD. If that fails, what do they have to fall back on? Once you're ahead, it makes absolute sense to make smaller improvements to maintain that lead.

I think we can all be grateful Intel is still pushing the envelope, albeit at a slower rate than expected. We did see the push back of Ivy Bridge (marketing reasons or otherwise), but realistically, if the current performance of BD can be inferred by recent events, there would be no need to release it until BD-E comes out as SB (and ever more so SB-E) will still be as fast or faster.

AMD already has the lead in that area though, it wouldn't make sense for them to solely focus on a market share they already have. BD needs to best SB, at least in some ways.

This is when I'll be excited about upgrading again. Unless Ivy is truly shocking, my Lynnfield will make it until 2013.
