Noctua NH-D14 + q6600 @ 3ghz = bad temps atm

Hello, I got my NH-D14 last night, installed it in my nzxt tempest evo modded box (some stuff cut out etc). So I overclocked the q6600 to 3 ghz with 1.325 v, my load temps in prime are 65-70 degrees which i dont think is correct right? Now... my thoughts are i'll probably have to reseat it, come to think of it my thermal paste application was probably not the best.
Can I get some tips on what I should look at later today when bugging my cooler again. Some good thermal paste spreading technique? I think i might have put too much (not sure)

Cheers.

Just follow the instructions Noctua provide and reseat. If this doesn't work contact Noctua tech support.

Just re-applied thermal paste and i dropped 10 degrees more or less. Doing 60-62 ( max ) on prime95 small fft's now. I suppose these temps are more in the norm or are they?

Those temps are pretty normal. One question: You didn't bump up to 3GHz straight away did you? The key to OCing a Q6600 is to do it in increments, than you're guaranteed the most stable overclock.

Also, let prime run for a good 12 hours at the very least. 24 would be more adequate.

It read 10-15c higher than it really was, didn't it.

My Bro's q9300 did that, He always thought he was idling at 55c untill he learned he was actually idling at 40c

is that using prime95 or Intel burn test?
try coretemp or realtemp, set the tjmax to 90 and then see the temps wink.gif
also look at the distance to tjmax, this will stay the same, no matter what you set the tjmax to. never let it go below 20

but at 3.8 with 1.5v those temps sound ok, especially in florida, i am guessing high ambient temps. low to middle 30's during the day?

Prime it would probably hit around 67-70 max the highest I've seen it getting hammered is around 64-66. Honestly I never stress test I just play till I get a crash. It seems to be the most effective way to test for me cause even if its stable for 20-30 minutes OCCT it will crash in a game in around 10-15 minutes or less. I guess its just more of a variety of instructions having to also handle GPU, audio, storage access, ect.
