Razer Quality

Thread Starter
Hey everyone I am curious if the quality of Razer products has improved over the years or is it still the hit and miss that it's always been?

I had a Razer Tarantula that broke, I had a Razer Copperhead that broke, and I had a Razer Barracuda with the sound card that well broke. My luck with Razer products isn't all that great to be honest.

The reason I ask is because a friend asked me about the Blackwidow Ultimate since I've got a Steelseries 7G and he liked using it so much that he went hunting for Mechanical Keyboards. The reason he decided to go with the Widow if he does buy it is simply because of Macros.

When I told him my experiences with Razer he had second thoughts and I told him I'd ask around. Personally I've never used Blue Switches so I don't know what they're like to type on and I will always raise an eyebrow when it comes to Razer Products.

I can't comment much about their quality, all I can say is they seem to be more of a marketing company than a gadget company, and most of their stuffs are overpriced and feels cheap for their price.

Razer quality aside, Cherry MX black are almost the diametrically opposite of blue, that would be among the most important thing to consider. If he expects them to feel alike he might be in for a disappointment.

The black widow has numerous quality issues.

Main issues, either straight up not working or the space bar pulls down the alt keys (seriously?)
Also they way the keycaps are made as they get older the black will wear away and it will just be a lighted blob instead of a letter

Oh also their Mamba when they launched it, the first batch didn't have any grease on the scroll wheel so the thing squeaked like no other. They do so many stupid little things and the BW has probably been one of their worst products for issues to date.

I have the Black Widow Ultimate and the Imperator mouse. No problems at all for me.

My mouse suffers from the laser issue which causes the cursor to skip if the mouse is lifted up and put back down. It doesn't bother me because I use my mouse the way it's supposed to be used.... by keeping it on the desk.(even while gaming)

Their mice are pretty neat so far I can tell.
Had a Copperhead and now an Imperator. Both work very well without any problems.

Then I had a Lycosa und a Blackwidow Ultimate.
The Lycosa worked for over half a year fine, then some random keys didn't work anymore from time to time until now that the windows keys don't work at all anymore.
The Blackwidow Ultimate I had been pretty nice and all, except the smaller key spacings.
But yea I've returned it because the J key didn't fully work.

So to me it seems their keyboards aren't the best on the market.
But I would always grab a mouse again by them.

Edit: Actually I plan on buying the Blackwidow Ultimate again. I hope I will have more luck this time then.

i have never owned anything from razer, but a buddy i work with bought one of the razer black widow keyboards (non ultimate version). he bought it the day of the lan and brought it with him having never used it before. he had multiple complaints: the back-lighting (which was one of the main reasons he bought this keyboard in the first place) would go out on him at random times throughout the day and could only be fixed by unplugging the keyboard and then plugging it back in. he didn't like how the keys were almost flush with the rest of the board. i also vaguely remember him mentioning something about how sometimes he would press a key, and nothing happened.

he ended up returning it and getting a logitech g110 and has not mentioned anything to me about it being bad.

i also know someone that has the black widow ultimate keyboard, and absolutely loves it.

in the end, it seems like it is hit and miss. if you do try out something from razer, just make sure you can return it if it messes up on you.

Hmm alright thanks for letting me know. My mate may just have to stick with his G19 if he wants Macros so bad.
