Good average length card?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

Looking for some advice. I have one PC that I wish to upgrade the GPU in. I actually bought a nice 4870 off ebay for it only to realise that the card won't fit in because of the length. The card was obstructed by the unfortunately placed SATA sockets ~.~

So the advice I need is which decent average length cards are there out there? It is being paired with an AMD X2 7550 and 4GB DDR2, so I'm not asking for what is the 'best' card, just something better than what is in it currently, a 9600GSO 348MB.

FYI, PSU is 500W and I'm not upgrading it or any other part.

Are they shorter than a Sapphire Toxic 4870? This is the main issue, there is no way around those SATA sockets.

Have you tried 90° SATA cables?

Changing configuration would still be a pain but most of the time I think the 90° connections manage to fit under the videocard.

Yup, but these SATA sockets are literally right underneath where the card extended to so they wouldn't fit even with the right-angled cables like that.

HD5770 is a nice suggestion. The length of a reference one is ~22cm.

See the 2 pics below for 5870(28cm), 5850(24cm), 5770(22cm) and 5750(18cm) lined up.

Whoa thanks for that picture, very helpful. I need to find out the length of this 4870 for comparison.
