Taking the plunge

Thread Starter

I've been looking into water cooling for a little while now and I finally have the money to go though with it, but before I do so I'd like to make sure I'm ordering the right things.

XSPC Rasa 750 RX360 WaterCooling Kit
Aquacomputer aquagraFX for GTX 470

(7/16in ID)
2x Enzotech Matte Black 1/2in. ID High Flow Fitting (Barb)

I also need 2 more hose clamps, is this the right size?
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/heclnyhoclsi5.html

I plan to buy a second GTX 470 + WB and a Rx240 later on.

Is it worth the extra 14$ a fan for the 1850 rpm gentle typhoons vs the ones that come with the kit?

Anyone have any additional tips, maybe something else I should get with my order?

Thanks for looking over my thread and for any help you may provide!

Seems that you're going fairly simple here, so what you have is not a bad start. I'd add a Silver Kill coil (you can get it at Sidewinder Computers).

Also, get 8x those barbs. Two for each item in the loop (dual bay pump/res, GPU block, CPU block, radiator).

The tubing you've selected should be better than the garbage XPSC supplies. You COULD go with the AP15's, but there's also other options for fans, such as the Kazi Juyni fans from Scythe that work well (and are cheaper).

The parts you will order are good. Just get the 10 for $2.10 clamps.

No need for GT if you don't have the money. Just buy this instead. Buy three and use the other free three for a push/pull config, or if you don't want to use the free ones, buy six.

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/yalo12d1cafa1.html

The 360 rad can handle those blocks even if you add another 470+ block.

Edit: Yeah don't forget the silver kill coil & use only pure distilled water.

Edit again: Also buy this to clean the TIM off your GPU block. And a different TIM of you like Prolimatech PK-1 Nano for the CPU/GPU blocks.

Everythin in the kit works well, performs well and will last a good time .... except for that pump in the RES. The pump is whimpy, noisy and there are reports in several threads here about issues and failures. Other than that, the kit is grand!

Yeah I got a kill coil, just forgot to list it.
I already have 6 of the barbs, just need 2 more for the gfx.
I guess I'll try the stock fans before I buy the GTs, I'm looking to quiet down my system some.

So those are the right sized clamps?
What kind of performance difference will I notice with the push/pull configuration? I'm looking to reduce the noise a bit from what I have now, so I'm trying to balance performance and noise.
I normally just use alcohol to clean off the old TIM

Yeah I've heard that it can be nosy. I think the pump should be able to handle my loop, if it's noisy I'll look into replacing it. Any suggestions on a new pump? I looked beforehand but I'm not really willing to spend 70$+ on a new pump right now.

Yes, those are the right size clamps.

The fans are fairly quiet(the ones i recommended) & if you have a fan controller you can even silence the fans even further. If not, you can buy a y-splitter for the 3 free fans then connect it to your CPU fan header & software control it using speedfan(or all 6 fans if you buy another three, just use a different fan header for the other three fans from your motherboard)

Don't worry about the included pump/res. You can always return it if it's noisy/defective.

Yeah I have many fan headers on my motherboard so controlling the speed shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully the pump/res won't be a problem, once I place the order I'll be too impatient to want to send it back.

Then you're set. Good luck with the build. Do a build log even if it's small. Just a transition from air cooling to water cooling.

Thanks!

If anyone else has something to add feel free! (could use a comment from someone that has had both the stock fans and the GTs)

I forgot the clamps!

This is the one you should buy.
