HDMI question with 6790

Thread Starter
So I picked up a MSI 6790 (2pm2digds) the card asks for a 500 watt PS mine is 475 system is sempron 2200+ dual core 4gb ram. The issue I have is when I plug in the HDMI I get video from POST up until the windows (7 x64 ultimate) login screen then it goes blank no signal. Get the same with DVI to HDMI and using DVI to VGA on a different monitor with HDMI plugged into primary monitor and if I try to hot plug I get the same. Drivers/Firmware/Windows up to date. Could the 25 watt difference be the cause of this? Thanks in advance!
my new rig.

What is your 475w PSU? It very likely only actually gives you around 400w-425w. Pending what it is, It's class, and all that fun stuff.

The only stickers that are still readable on it just say 475w I remember paying like 150-200 USD for it just cant remember the brand. Ok so lets say its only getting 450w would that cause the HDMI issues I dont want to RMA a good card
if I dont have to its one of the ones with extra ROPS, I think, it has extra something like that.

the psu isnt the problem yet (when you start gaming or using the 3d capabilities of the car it may be)
if it posts with it its fine
its either windows setting the res out of range of the monitor or using a different format than the monitor supports

try using a dvi or the adapter that with it comes with for vga on a monitor
or a hdmi tv that fully supports 1920x1080p at native res (not overscanning)
then plug in the 2nd monitor and set windows to use it at the apporpriate resolution

Yes that was what was leading me to believe it was the power supply being to weak. In Splinter Cell Conviction I get the same 25-35 fps on all low 640x480 as I do on all highest at 1280x720 and that includes aa/af.
