Need help deciding on which GPU to upgrade to

Thread Starter
Let me start off by saying I am running 2560x1600 on a 30" LG monitor.
I currently can run bad company 2, sc2, moh, etc at medium settings pretty smooth without any problems.
I am looking forward to BF3 as well as SWTOR at max settings. I will definitely be looking at Kepler, but I don't want to wait until next year to upgrade.
I was thinking about upgrading to the msi gtx 580 3gb lightning extreme but I also read some reviews saying the asus DCUII was quieter.
I did purchase dual hd 6970's a month or 2 ago and they sounded like aircraft taking off under load and ran very hot so I sent them back to the EGG. So I'm back to camp Nvidia looking for some lower DB goodness.
I am open to any suggestions, and will probably be jumping to core i5 2500k or i7 2600k with a z68 board soon as well.
I am open to changing cases, if necessary to make the cards quieter when I am gaming.

It's probably too late since most people don't rebuy something already returned, but all you needed were 2 of these...

The reference gtx580's will produce same heat and noise as hd6970,
I suggest you to upgrade the pc case to a lian li a70/cm HAF-X & msi gtx580 lightning(1.5gb)
get the lightning 3gb only if you are running 3x monitors.
Avoid asus gtx580 direct cuII if you are doing sli because of triple slot design.
You can also wait for asus gtx580 matrix platinum.
Hope you like my suggestion.

Won't the 3gb version allow me to turn up more settings such as AA and make my gaming experience even better?
Even though it's a single monitor, it's still 2560x1600

Ya,on that resolution 3gb will be better,but with a vry smaller margin over 1.5gb,thus the 3gb doesn't worth $100.
