Hey guys. I just wanted to get some opinions on this build I put together. I've never bought a micro atx motherboard and my computer knowledge is outdated. I just don't want one component to bottleneck another. I all ready own the hard drive. Anyways, tell me you what all think.

I guess we all have our definition of HTPC.

i5 + 6970? For movies?!

I would get a gt430 with a phenom II CPU instead.

Make that your main computer and use your sig rig for the HTPC.

Uhm way overkill on everything.
What software are you going to be using? W7? XBMC?
I would suggest a i2100 with a 430 for the card and just get like a 450 corsair or something along those lines.
Get a ssd to smooth things out perhaps, 30gb should be more than enough.

Do you really think you'll play that many games on this machine? The problem will be mouse/KB, wireless ones suck for FPS games. I can tell you from personal experience that unless you can wire a M/KB, the only things you'll end up playing are console ports with a gamepad, and those don't need much hardware.

Realistically, for an HTPC you'd be better off to spend $$ on an SSD (quick sleep/unsleep), a high-quality sound card for music (if you're an audiophile) and use the extra money to get a good receiver and speakers if you don't already have them.

HTPC IMO would be:

Phenom II X4 or lower-tier Sandy Bridge
ATi 6850
120GB SSD
1TB HDD if you don't have a NAS
Auzentech or ASUS dedicated sound
best receiver and speakers you can afford

If you're going to use this box for Blu-Ray, the sound-card will complicate things as you'll want your blu-ray sound through the HDMI. I just use a dedicated player for Blu-Ray.

If you're really going to focus this machine on gaming, then go for it. But to me an HTPC should focus on sound quality, picture quality, power savings and sleep/unsleep speed. Gaming would be a secondary thing just for fun, 'cause it just ain't practical.
