HD 4870 outdated?

Hi I'm about to upgrade my system to a i5 2500k along with the mobo and ram. However I don't have much money to be spending on a new video card justyet. I was considering playing games on my PC again... I used to play crysis and some other games when i Used to have my e7400. However with new games coming out I srr that people are starrting to use the hd6xxx series... I was wondering if my 4870 is totally outdated now that there are more games and more cards available.. what kind of games would I be missing out on playing if I keep my hd4870?

I have two of them in CF, granted they are the 1gb, but they have served me well. If you have the money to upgrade I would say go for it, but if your pressed and want to get a little more performance just snatch another and put it in CF.

Stuff to take in consideration, what resolution you play at? Are you looking at maxing out your said games graphics with AA and other options? Stuff like that you can take into consideration, though they are older, they are good cards.

I am looking at getting two new cards to put in CF myself, though I'm running a Crysis mod that takes some horsepower to run.

Your 4870 should be able to play pretty much anything out now, or coming out in the next year. The 6xxx cards should get cheaper when AMD launches the 7xxx series; you'll be able to wait until you find a good value.

got 2x 4890s for like 135. your 4 series are still ok - if you'd like u can grab a 2nd '70 for a bit of change and crossfire (if ur mobo supports)

I'm sure that thing still plays everything really well. Just because it's old doesn't mean it won't perform well in the future; that thing was powerful to begin with, especially with your monitor.

sorry i forgot to mention guys. my sig is a little outdated.. i currently use a 24 inch asus screen D: 1080p
will i still be able to play games maxed out full resolution with just a single 4870? im considering saving up for another 4870. but i dont know where to get them for cheap; newegg doesnt sell them anymore.

but if i dont have to go for the 4870, im willing to stick with the 4870. i just want to have that goood gaming experience

The most under addressed thing when talking about video card upgrades, I totally agreed with these...

Until you hit us with this, I would say you are borderline, it will still run things well, but know you are going to need an upgrade at some point soon.

4870 is still a pretty good card, however for 1080P 512 mb is kinda lacking. I would recommend the 1GB model for playing at that resolution.

It's not terrible by any means, you might just not be able to crank the AA and every now and then you might have to run medium settings instead of high. So since you're on a budget right now the card can hold you over for a while I think. I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to replace it.

I think you'll still be able to play most games with decent graphics. I don't believe there have been too many new games out there since the release of 4870 that would require more gpu power.

EDIT: It may bottleneck a little, but I don't think it will limit your gaming experience much.
