Core unlocking experiments!

Warm greetings there gents and ladies too.

I'm somewhat new to this corner of the internet so it's pleasing to meet you

Anyway recently I got a motherboard that supports Overclocking and ACC, been messing around with an AMD Athlon II X3 445. Now I've played around with Overclocking before but having some issues that i just can't get past here.
Now my experience with overvolting and the settings it should be at for each aspect to maintain a stable system isn't as high as I'd wish.

So ...
Have the Athlon II x3 set with the 4th core unlocked, now everything with that seems "stable"
The Motherboard sets the CPU Voltage with this to 1.3750 and the NB at 1.750, I beileve this is the normal setting for the CPU anyway, with x3 cores

Now at these settings the system is stable in a way, there’s no hanging of the system or crashes, etc but there’s lots of screen glitches.
Now I've tried messing around with the voltage settings for the CPU to try and get it running 'clean' and stable
I've tried from a full range of everything:
1.150v to 1.20v - Unstable, crashing
1.2375 to 1.375 - Stable but screen glitching
1.375 + stable still but even more glitching
Hightest i've tried is 1.6, No crashing there but i didn't dare push more.

Now at first I assumed that with an extra core, it would have been wise to overvolt by 0.1v or so, anyway I slowly moved it up from the default, trying and testing but the more I increased there didn't seem to be any chance of loosing this screen glitching.
So far the most best setting I’ve found is 1.2375v - This doesn't crash/freeze but has less screen glitching, the higher it goes the most intense the glitching seems to get.

I've not really played with the NB voltage that much, increase or decrease there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference that i can see.
Am not really sure what else to do here or where my next aim could be.

The only other thoughts I had was a heating issue, as it seemed that there was more screen glitching when higher voltage, more heat. However, from what I’ve researched the max temp for the CPU is 73*C, whereas now I’ve got a water cooling unit on it. With that it runs at:
3 cores: 17*C idle - 25*C Load
4 Cores: 45*C Idle - 55*C Load
- seems quite a leap

As for the screen glitches
They are like retangular multicoloured atifacts that mainly apear on any videos, pictures, animations ... Basically anything that isn't a solid colour.

Now there could be just that the 4th core is faulty and so this is a hardware problem that can't be fixed but well am really determined to get this working.

If anyone has any suggestions am very grateful or knowledge that would be useful on my experiments!
Thank you very much for your help
Take care - Regards, LightWrath

It's faulty, no way to fix it.

They are locked for a reason anyways.

Yeah I somewhat figured the same, but well was somewhat confused to graphical glitches, thought it would basically either bluescreen or not boot been faulty but with limited knowledge on voltage settings I thought i'd try and get a confirmation on this.
Thank you for your reply.

Thank you for your reply.
Graphical glitches and the like are pretty much the main symptoms of a core being faulty.

Interesting, My next pay slip will have to go on some new toys, seems weird but I enjoyed this processor more just from the educational side of it and configuration more then the games i've played on it. Maybe thats just somewhat weird to say!

Darksoul844:
Well the NB was set as that as default ... I've not touched this in anyway and to be honest am not sure what a good setting of this should really be so I just left it alone.
What do you feel is a more comforable setting for this?

I think that's the problem, default = auto sometimes and that gives you too much when its not unlocked whats the default at?

mines NB is at 2.7@ 1.45V

I'm pretty sure you two are confusing CPU/NB(IMC) voltage with the NB on the Motherboard.

When you overclock the "NB", you are actually overclocking the Integrated Memory Controller on the CPU.

1.75v IMC voltage would be deadly for the CPU in any case. You wouldn't be running it right now if it was that high.
