bottleneck?

Thread Starter
I've been playing WOT and I notice the handy-dandy framerate on it lists me at best 20 frames per sec, at worst 10. It's playable but I'm wondering where my system falls short here on frames.

I've got:

Asus Rampage 2 extreme
i7 920 2.67
12 gigs of Ram
2 4870x2 cards in crossfire
1 tb (spinpoint i think) hd for the OS
30 inch samsung 305t plus monitor

running the game at max 2560 x 1600(likes to go to 1548* though for some reason).

Just running stock and lowering some settings helps a smidge but not a bunch.

I would think with those dual cards it would be ok on that 30 inch but what do I know. Is it the card, the stock cpu clock or what? Tempted to try overclocking but some components are borrowed.

Plus last time I was trying to get into the bios I'd get black screen forever. Not sure if ithat was just an abnormally slow boot with that big HD but it seems to never get vid when I start wacking keys to find the bios. That's a separate issue though.

thanks for the help.

I would definitely recommend overclocking your processor if you can - those cards are pretty good - pretty much the same as running 5870's in crossfire. If you can even get your processor in the 3.5GHZ range which is fairly easy for most i7's you should see a huge improvement in FPS

I second what appleg33k85 suggested. I don't think your GPUs are the bottle. There are threads here that will help you unleash your i7 beast

it is very possible that your issue is the GPUs in 4 way crossfire like that could be scaling horribly in that game. could even be drivers. try updating?
