Doesn't Google screen their Chrome extensions?

It's almost like arguing against Free Speech vs Dictatorship. Sure there will be racists and religious nut-jobs taking advantage of free speech but it's better than there being no freedom of speech.

My opinion is that I'd like to customize the devices I buy rather than have a painless experience, therefore I own an android smartphone [that is rooted and overclocked]. You're welcome to disagree; thats kinda why opinions exist.
Well I do have my iphone 4 Jailbreaked too which is the same as rooting basically

Okay, does iOS have any custom ROMS or kernels? Can you change the unlock screen, or how many desktops your home screen has? Can you change which desktop is the 'default' screen?

And so the debate begins.

I find it surprising actually that Google flipped the switch on those apps rather quickly. Usually it would take days or weeks to find stuff out that are infected and have them rooted out. Good job Lookout and Google for the quick dispatch of these apps.

The thing you and others never seem to get, is the amount of people that actually care about custom ROMS, is so minuscule - so tiny - that it doesn't matter. I'd bet money that 99% of the population with an Android smartphone don't even know what a ROM is. People who want to root their phones and customize every last facet of it are an extremely tiny minority. Whereas a vast majority of folks are happy to have a picture of their choosing for wallpaper and custom ringtones.

Just because you can do those things with Android doesnt inherently make it a better platform. If anything it just increases the likelihood of the user bricking it, or running a buggy ROM (which, let's face it, is pretty common place). The whole "customization" argument is played out. It's time to find something else to debate because it's a nonstarter.

What if I say that Android has more potential to be better than any other mobile system, because it has abilities unique to the OS? We cannot argue that any one of the top platforms is the absolute "best" since it's all relative to user experience, but given the capabilities of Android, it has the better chance to improve through freedom of user-created content as well as official updates.

That's some high quality posting that is!

On a more thoughtful note, that other big piece that other the Apple fanbois aren't mentioning is the breadth of devices. With the iOS you have the... iPhone. That's it.

With Android you have many many phones, lots of hardware. The sexy high end phones with all kinds of neat features with new ones coming out constantly to the low end phones for Joe-smoe who can't afford something like the iPhone. This also allows for new advances in technology to come to market much quicker than the iOS which is stuck with a single handset controlled by a single company where inovation, while present, is much slower to come to fruition.

Apparently damage control has been pretty quick with Lookout (and other security people/normal users) reporting to Google for these potential threats. It's rather easy for Big G to remove the apps from the Market and suspend related accounts to prevent damage. However, I do agree that Google should have more control over the publishing of apps, so attempts like these won't be frequent.
