mobo cpu combo help?

Thread Starter
i have decided on the x2 555 hoping it will unlock :/ and be stable
but now i need to decide on a board capable of unlocking cores and ready for some overclocking i would really like to keep total cost under $220 (cpu and board) also i plan on using 8 gb of ddr3 at 1600.
thanks.

I think you can do better with that budget. If you want to have future SLI capibility on a AM3 platform then:

ASUS M4N75TD AM3 $95 (Listed at x8 even at single card.. 3 year warrenty)
or
MSI NF750-G55 AM3 $95 (x16 speed PCI-E, 1 year warrenty)

Phenom II x4 955 BE $114

$209

most 770nb/710sb or higher chipsets can unlock cores

but if you need 4 cores get the 955 ($23 difference, when i got this it was about $80 more for the x945)

avoid msi, get a gigabyte or asus board

if you plan on overclocking it, get a good cooler 212+, a50 or a70
880g board if you need the onboard video for htpc or good hardware video dedcoding
870 if you dont need the onboard video

955

and
ASUS M4N75TD

are $217

edit: added jagz linked asus board, nice pick 8+1 power phase, great for overclocking high wattage cpu's
