Very strange issues

Thread Starter
At seemingly random times, several issues on my computer (sig build) start. For one, any new USB devices plugged into the computer are simply unrecognized, while devices already plugged in, such as mouse and keyboard continue to work. In fact, when I plug in my USB drive, it doesn't even seem to be read, since the light doesn't go on. It's as if the USB port is disabled. Furthermore, my web browser (Google Chrome) will stop being able to access websites or load pages. Other applications such as chat clients and IRC still work. I haven't yet tried other browsers, but I will ASAP. These issues last for a few (10-20 minutes) before everything goes back to normal. All the USB devices are instantly recognized and Chrome begins to load pages again. Any suggestions? I've already tried a reinstall of Windows, and the issues persist, so I think it may be drivers or hardware.

Its likely you have a pretty nasty virus. I would do what Joe said and reinstall the OS. Otherwise, the MOBO may be on the fritz.

I've already reinstalled Windows. Very recently, in fact. I've also done a full scan with the antivirus, which turned up nothing.

So do the google chrome issues correspond with trying to use a thumb drive? Is it a specific USB port, perhaps a multi-card reader w/ USB connectors.

If so I would try inserting the thumb drive in the very back of the computer, just to see if any change occurs.

It seems that the USB drive issue and the Chrome issue are more loosely related. Sometimes Chrome begins working before the USB devices do, sometimes the other way around. They usually start at exactly the same time, though.

I tried all the USB ports on my computer, and they all exhibit the same issue. I've also noticed another problem with the computer: while the USB problem exists, accessing My Computer usually displays a blank Explorer window that perpetually loads. Accessing any folder on the computer works, but My Computer doesn't.
