A crazy monitor mod

Thread Starter
ok... so this is gonna sound extremely far fetched, but i am willing to try it. I own an Alienware M17-R1 The laptop is a 17" screen and its resolution is 1920x1200.
I can buy a replacement screen for a couple hundred dollars. Money is really no object, so there is no issue of price to performance ratio...

I would like to buy 3 of these 1920x120 laptop screens and find a way to play them into a DVI interface. Is there a possible way of wiring these guys to do so?

My desktop has 2 HD 6970's and i'd like to run eyefinity on these tiny monitors. The whole idea is that they are very small 1200p monitors

Also it would be super unique to have a custom made 5760x1200 esspecially without and bezel of any sort. I have created my own mounting bracket that i can use.

Hope someone knows a way of doing this...

Thanks in advance

Or you could wait more than thirty minutes before bumping like the rules say to. Not everyone who looks at your topic will have an answer. Just have some patience.

This has been talked about many times. It will not work. The vast majority of the chipset that drives these monitors is integrated on the laptop motherboard. There is no way to output to it except through the laptop itself. Hopefully, the laptop monitors will go to a DisplayPort based interface that will allow desktop displayport to work. Eventually.

Also, don't bump your thread more than once a day. It's in the ToS.

If money really is not an object in this endevour, then I would suggest not putting the money into a laptop. As stated by others, there is not really any way to get the output to work from the laptop regardless if it has more than one "card", I would invest this money into an actual rig to do some serious screening

Yeah, you'd have to run three different laptops. Each running their own OS. Each will all their own hardware discrete from any other laptop. Not much eyefinity potential there.

You can probably get Eyefinity for about the same price with bigger displays. I got my monitors for $120 each.

actually thats quite a nice monitor,, 1600x1200 is quite nice the nice thing is the bezel is quite small

The screen does look quite square tho... i do prefer 16:10 but still that would be quite nice...
