Attempting to get into RTS's. Any suggestions? - Page 3

For someone starting out, I suggest

Rome: Total War

Dawn of War (orginal)

DOW Black Crusade

These will give you a good grounding in resouce management, base building and conquest.

Have fun!

My vote goes for SC2. Play through the tutorials and campaign and you will get an understanding of how all the units work. It does a good job teaching you how to play if you dont know what youre doing.

Don't start by SC2.

It is one of the most shallow RTS out there: not a lot of unit, not a lot of spells, ridiculously small maps, only 3 races etc.

Blizz even removed spells from the game. What the heck?

Start by Dawn of War, Command and Conquer or Age of Empires if you want the richest and deepest RTS experience.

Don't believe SC2 junkies who takes "ladder" drug everyday.

I played the original Starcraft and delved into SC2... I dont remember seeing any spells in either game... You are referring to the Starcraft series, or did I miss something?

As to your suggestions, good picks

You best start off by warzone 2100 coz its free http://wz2100.net/ Plus its one of the greatest RTS games ever.

Also Men at war is awesome.
