I suggest Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance for massive battles. Supreme Commander 2 is also good with the map packs and a few mods. Company of Heroes is also very nice, especially Tales of Valor.

Dear DoomDash,

Activicrap and Blizzard decided to release the game in 3 different expansions to squeeze some more money in their huge wallet.

If you played any RTS before Starcraft 2, you would know how limited is Starcraft 2. But hey! Most people playing Starcraft 2 right now are probably new to RTS and for them SC2 is the highest standard ever.

This game would have gotten my vote if it was complete in July 2010, because playing this game now is like playing with a straitjacket.

PS: I hate how this game overshadows any other RTS out there, because newbies *** to HuskyStarcraft and Korean SC2 pro-leagues.

Depends on your style.

Do you like elaborate stories? Do you get into worlds (ie, are you a frequent RPG player)? Then go with CnC. Don't touch Command and Conquer 4; Play everything up to Command and Conquer 3. Anything after is crap.

Do you like crazy high level strategy with lots of things to manage? Sins of a Solar Empire. Watch for the LRM fleets, though.

Do you like the above, except not in space and more..co-operative? Supreme Commander. The second one is pretty 'eh' though.

I also highly recommend the campaign of Act of War: Direct Action. You need to limit your RAM in msconfig to 2GB to play it, though.

Starcraft/2 is an obvious mainstay, but don't be afraid to go beyond Starcraft. I find Starcraft multiplayer boring, myself; once you find a strategy you win with, there's no more satisfaction in it. Your victory also depends a lot on your ability to micro manage and take advantage of game mechanics. It feels too much like manipulating a spreadsheet to me, as opposed to playing a game.

Company of Heroes is immersive. In a match, there's always something you can do . This makes micromanagers kings; but because of the level of randomness in play, it's entirely possible to defeat a micromanager with a winning strategy. That's nice tank placement thar; too bad my AT squad's on that hill. Behind it. Goodnight, tank crew <3

Oh, I entirely missed DOW! Give it a shot. The multiplayer in the original is fun but buggy; the multiplayer in the second one is flawless but boring and awkward, IMO. The campaigns in every single one are pretty wonderful though.

So you are saying it is good for a beginner? I cant speak for doom but i have played many RTS games and completely non competitive, that includes Sup com all the C&C games ( generals being my favorite of those ) Haven't had a chance to play the Dawn of War games. I love Civilization games. It sounds like your more mad about the "cash" grab by blizzard than the actual game of SC2

I've been playing RTS probably before 99% of people on here ( on KALI!!! ).

I played TA, WC1, WCII, WCIII, C&C, ect ect.

Look, a battle report of me from the year 2000 because I was pretty high level even in BW for the time.

http://www.battlereports.com/viewrep...reportnum=2809

Played in the most famous US channel of all time regularly. Pretty familiar with RTS, and just because its complicated doesn't make it good. SCII is complicated at 1000 MPH and balanced.
