sc1 is broken? take a look at sc2, with all this hard countering nonsense. it just cheapens a game when counters arent soft enough for mechanics to make a difference
Again this "hard counter" argument is making you look bad man. It's comments like this that make me wish you would just keep quiet because you obviously don't know how the game even remotely works. Day9 discussed many times that there is no such thing as a hard counter, at least certainly no different than BW. It's just a silly way to look at things.

Either way no matter how you look at besides APM sinks SCII is better than BW in almost every way. They do need a little more APM sinks but my guess is this will be offered in HotS, with a superior engine.

Also yes, BW was harder mechanically than SCII. Why? Because its old and crappy now. Sure it was cool to see how far people could push it to the limit but SCII still has the same thing, except not borderline stupid. It was cool for BW because at that time it was no big deal, but the game needs to advance, and SCII did that.

More work to get good when a large portion of it just tedious in nature is not better.

I do agree with you on SC over these other RTS's though. I am glad you love BW, and I love it too, but I feel bad that you can't see how amazing SCII is, your loss.

just cut the bull****, give me reasons why sc2 is better in every way instead of just talking nonsense for a few paragraphs
post #83 of 98
it always amazes me how you people constantly parrot on about the lowering of the skill ceiling, and how its a good thing. its all just laziness, and its why the foreign sc2 scene will never be able to match the korean sc2 scene

The contracts for the BW scene are up near the end of the year... say good by to your little bubble. Only thing holding BW together right now is contracts.

The skill ceiling is the same besides engine improvements, cutting out the tedious. Would you think adding math problems to make units in BW would be better because it raises the skill cap? That's just really poor logic. High skill cap does not mean a better game.

I'm not wasting my time explaining the many many reasons SCII is better, because it's all opinions. But as a fan of both it's my opinion that SCII is a better game, and will be way better if they change around just a few more units.

I'm not going to try and convince you... you can live in the past. I will feel sorry for you when BW dies, which will be soon. Rumors of those sick BW players coming over already are circling.

I've always looked for high level games. SC, CS, Tekken, SCII... this is my nature.

- two upcoming expansions

yes, it has ******* bad graphics, who gives a ****?

I do, as, I'd assume, majority of people living in the present rather than the past.

it has far superior gameplay and a much higher skill ceiling.

I believe that SC2 has much superior gameplay. Show both games to a random bunch of people and ask which one they think has a superior gameplay? Skill ceiling? Link me to your Grandmaster account and at least I'll give you some credibility.

furthermore, it is played at a much, much higher level than sc2 currently is. that last point isnt even arguable

And why would anyone care? Also SC:BW has been around for over 10 years, so it's kind of obvious.

nerds? are you ******* kidding me? why are they nerds, because they have a passion for something?

Pretty much. They are highly skilled in a non-mainstream activity that most people don't give a **** about.

the koreans shouting is a great part of brood war.

I find them really annoying.

spent too much time playing it rofl

Since BW mechanics is much harder to master and the game has a very steep learning curve you have to spend much more time playing it to be able to play at competitive level. It's natural that if someone has spend years doing it they won't just admit they wasted time playing video game and will be afraid of a change. A natural psychological reaction.

brood war is incredibly fun to play because it is so fiercely competitive, much moreso than any other rts in existence. it is dynamic and experiences constant changes in gameplay.

Same is true for SC2. Even more so, since the game is new.

oh, and by the way, i love the graphics. i dont give a **** if they arent 3d, sc2 graphics may be flashy but it makes everything so impossibly hard to decipher. if they replaced it with brood war graphics it would be much easier to watch.

I'm for one glad with the progress PC graphics has made in the last decade. Also you may have some cognitive problems.

in summary, you're a waste of space and likely have no idea what you are talking about

Wonder why you're so butthurt about it. You're some BW pro wannabe? If you're in any way representative for what BW community looks like that's just another reason against this game.
This is my last post in this thread because I don't expect anything from you but more trolling. Have fun.

I like to think in my battles... hence, 4 player 1000 unit vs 1000 unit vs 1000 unit vs 1000 unit battles over LAN on Forged Alliance. Never before has an insidious cackle escaped my lips with more vigor than when I performed a simultaneous octa nuke strike in the shape of a happy face at one opponent while marching over 580 high powered land units backed up by experimentals on another poor sucker, while flinging around 400 aircraft bombers/gunships/fighters/experimentals at my other opponent. All the while my artillary from base-side is pounding away at their pathetic attempts to dethrone me....

Guys,

Just admit it: Starcraft 2 is just the updated version of Broodwar. There is no new nor original features introduced in this game.

They rehash SC1 to please the korean pro leagues and to make more money by selling it one third at a time.

If we were in 2004 I would have no problem recommending it, but Jesus Christ its 2011 Blizz step up your game to a new level.

Even though it is from clear back in 2003 I still like Command and Conquer Generals and the Zero Hour expansion. I still play that every now and then.

I haven't ever really gotten into Starcraft.

FF7 being remade with better graphics is still the best game ever, regardless of time.

SCII updating BW with good engine, good graphics, UI, new units, and AI changes is also still going to be the best RTS experience you can get, just like SC1/BW.

Are you going to knock on chess because board games have gotten more advanced in ways chess does not need to advance in to be the biggest success of all time?

If you want a bunch of crazy ideas or concepts, sure, SCII will not be for you. If you want the highest level fast paced, most entertaining e-sport game of all time, you go with Starcraft.

You can be biased all you want but we got exactly what we were looking for. You just are looking for different things, but you need to accept that your RTS games will never be as popular and loved as ours. Don't take it personally.
