A single GTX 580 setup at 1080P/1200P wouldn't tax either a 4GHz i7 920 or a 5GHz i5 2500K.

It also depends on which game as well.

It's all relative.
This is true. Tri-SLi'd GTX 580's need a ton of cpu power to flourish. My 1090T @ 4Ghz just couldn't do what my 2500k can. I was running Tri-SLi'd 1.5GB 580's before I switched to the 3GB versions and I wouldn't trade the 2500k for anything right now.

Well, since 2500k = 2600k/HToff, but does the 2mb more cache = $100?........
I have found that a 5ghz 2600k = 4.4ghz 980x if that eases your mind a little bit more.

I think youll be happy with it

Any kind of overkill is relative if you are going to justify it by saying it's needed for "quad SLI setups" which is not really what the OP is running.

But yes, obviously these things become relative if you are going to run a top of the line rig/monitor setup.

I'm merely stating that GPU>CPU is much more relative to real world performance on a mid/high end rig which is what the OP is running.

Doesn't anyone find it strange that looking at most of the rigs on OCN - you could swear you had stumbled on to a video editing forum, yet there's so much talk about people building these rigs strictly for gaming.

But each to his own, I know people love there overclocks here on OCN, enjoy
