Help with Xonar DG and front audio ports.

Thread Starter
Hey - I recently purchased my first sound card, the Asus Xonar DG and... it says something about automatically detecting the front audio ports on your case. Well I get it all hooked up and plug my speakers in back and when I plug my headphones in the ports on my case - I get nothing. I turned off my onboard audio... I've messed around with the analog outputs in the Xonar software. Kind of confused here.

You're able to choose between something like "front out" and regular "analog out" right?

Also something you can do is change the wire that's connected to the card. If it's AC'97, change it to the HD Audio and vice versa.

MMM also - I have some really annoying static/faint high-pitched noise when I use my front ports. I believe I had this with onboard too so I never used them. Anything to fix that? Or is it just a problem with the case/ports?

It's not an uncommon problem. The wire that goes from the input to the sound card can sometimes be not the best.

Word - is there a way that I can replace that?

Also - I don't think the front ports receive any amplification because wow... Just plugged my cans into the back and what a difference.

I'm also wondering about this..... Will I need to switch what is plugged into the card (headphones vs speakers) depending on what I am doing - or will I get the same sound out of the front ports as I will from the card itself?

I have a Lian-Li case, and can get replacement parts like the front panel audio/USB/firewire connectors.

Check your case manufacturers website or give it a google.

If you can find a bad connection on the existing connection and can solder or whatever it takes to repair it, you won't loose out on trying it yourself first.
