overall hardrive questions

this seems stupid to ask especially since i have set up my hdd on my computer fine but here goes...

im picking up an ssd later this week i think im going with the intel 320 because i hear bad things about the OCZ but we shall see. its going to 120gigs and i want to put all the things that i use the most on it like browsers or whatever else i can including whatever game i play the most (sc2) and heres my problem.

i already have 2 500gb hdd's set up (a friend set the second up) as a boot and a storage drive. is anything special required of me setting up an ssd and 2 500gb hdd's, or will it be str8 forward.

also i have never cleaned an hdd only reformated with the windows cd so how to i clear out my hdd so that windows 7 isnt on it and it can just be a storage drive

THEN do i install the display drivers on all my hard drives? and can your computer get messed up in any way by doing this? because when i was trying to learn how to set up my hdd i installed windows on both my hdd and the display drivers and so im just curious.

the final question which is pretty important is, whats the point of setting up a partition. when i go to do it i pretty much am just taking gigs away from what could cause a problem later. is this just for backing up files?

whats the deal with that

summary - i want to clean my 2 hard drives or at least remove windows 7 off them and make my ssd my boot drive and home to some important functions, and the hdd i want for storage/games/things i cant fit on the ssd

really appreciate your answers in advance guys i wouldnt be so obsessed with hardware if it wasnt for this forum

edit - i screwed something up when partitioning i made 100gigs on one of my hdd a partition and then somehow deleted it. is this recoverable? i dont care tbh but its just kinda meh

Make sure TRIM is enabled on your SSD, and install the display driver's on your boot drive.

A partition is good for lots of things, you can have a boot drive and storage on the same one if you split it in halves. For just a storage drive, it doesn't really matter but if you do make some partition's I think it may increase access time's slightly.

Just leave your HDD's as is, backup whatever you need then put the installation disk in, boot from it and install onto your SSD. Once installed just reformat the old drive's and your good to go.

so you are saying i need to partition my ssd to split it for my windows and then the rest for storage?

i cant just install **** on my ssd i have to split it up?

i thought an ssd was just a hard drive that didnt have moving parts so it reads faster. i didnt know i had to operate differently then a normal hdd in regards to it being the boot drive and also storage.

what is TRIM?

No no no not at all, you don't have to partition your SSD, I was giving you example's of use's of what partitioning can be used for.

Your right about how SSD's don't have moving parts like normal hard drive's and they are a lot faster. They do act the same but since they're just memory modules and it's far faster but it come's at a price in both cost per/gb and they are more vulnerable to wear with excessive reads/writes

and this is TRIM

as long as you have ahci turned on your motherboard and running win7 you dont need to do anything else.
