P5KPL-CM + AMD question

Thread Starter
Was wonder if the mother board P5KPL-CM would support a PHENOM II X4 840 CPU. I would like to change out my 3.0ghz duo without buying a new motherboard if at all possible.

I've looked around a bit to try and find out but I have to admit i'm totally clueless when it comes to motherboards.

No, this is an LGA 775 procesor and will only take LGA775 processors, not AMD/AM3.

Oh, is there anyway possible to even upgrade to a quad core with this motherboard?

Something like Core 2 Quad Processor Q8400 work?

Don't bother, 775 is dead and most places have already stopped carrying them. Believe it or not You're probably better off building a new rig.*

*Unless of course, you can find a C2Q for under $200.

P.S. i had to read the first post like three times to convince myself i wasn't seeing things. AMD cpu on INTEL mobo, I thought it was obvious it wouldn't work...
Anyway, I realize we were all noobs once, so welcome and i hope you stick around.

P.P.S I find it funny all the people responding to your question are AMD users. laugher.gif

Heh, Yeah i am completely clueless when it comes to motherboards tongue.gif.

I don't really have money to replace my whole rig i can run most games on high to max setting at 1920x1080 around 35-50ish frames depending on the game. I mostly just get CPU bottle necked so i was hoping for a upgrade on it without blowing a bunch of cash

That's what overclocking's for:D, The e8400 were quite the overclockers IIRC, you should be able to reach 3.6-3.8 pretty easily.

i was actually looking at

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0316263

which is 169$ which seemed like a fair price to me which is why i was considering upgrading.

Actually i can't get past 3.3ghz overclocking the bios are really weird and if i go ever 3.3ghz my computer won't even start up.

But it's very possible i could be doing it wrong i am the biggest noob ever at anything to do with the motherboard.
