Not the smartest guy when it comes to PCs so step by step would be nice

I had the plain Audigy 2 ZS (same card, but no accessories) and I loved it. However, I've only used that card in Windows 98 and then XP (so perhaps it's just not fully compatible with Windows 7, however it sounds like chalkbluffgrown has the answer here
). I remember having a complete global Graphic Equalizer in the driver (its control panel) as well as other settings that allowed me to get a very pleasing sound from it. I agree, it sucked without any adjustments to the Graphic Equalizer; to me it sounded flat and lifeless.
After making my adjustments, it sounded great. I boosted 8k the most (very high up), 4k about half as much, and 2k about half as much as 4k. I left the mids at 0, and I boosted the 2 lowest frequencies just because I felt like it.
I also had the Treble turned up to like... 90% or something while I always left the Bass at 50%.
Then I replaced this card with the X-Fi XtremeGamer (the one that looks like a low-profile card), and it made the Audigy 2 ZS sound like garbage.
