Sata 3 Now or Later?

Thread Starter
Looking to purchase an ssd for the first time.

Wondering if its worth the extra $$ for sata 3 or should I go for sata 2 if I'm wanting to spend as least as possible?

Motherboard does have sata 3 so thats not an issue.

Having SATA III is not enough. What motherboard you have? Anything below P67 board, you shouldn't bother with SATA III, coz that board will have Marvell controller and it's really bad. If you say what board you got (not mentioning adding your specs to the signature), it would help a lot.

Get any of those brands: Intel, Crucial, OCZ - whichever is cheapest for the size you are aiming.

I've got the Asus P8P67 Pro.

Then get SATA III, no point in waiting. And they are not much more expensive than SATA II.

Don't live in the US and the difference between sata 2 and sata 3 is quite high.

Still worth getting sata 3?

Since he has native SATA III port already, why wait? In the US are the lowest prices on everything, how can you say big difference in price I payed in the UK £100 for Crucial C300 64GB (SATA III), while in the US it costed something like $120, while the exchange rate was smth like 1£=1.7$. So prices in the US are uber low lucky bastards

Sorry for off topic. You can get Crucial m4 (newer version of C300), which is SATA III and it doesn't cost much and has good reviews.

I don't know the difference other than the physical size. Some models differ (3.5 might have bigger capacity or different controller) but to be honest I see no point in 3.5 at all. Maybe someone can add something to it. I know little of 3.5 SSDs.
