Sell 480 SLI for 580 SLI?

Thread Starter
I am thinking of selling my Stock 480s and purchasing 2 MSI Lightning GTX 580s and over clocking them.

I know you dont have alot of info here such as what games or what res I play at, but my question is not should I or shouldn't I, but in what instance would the above sale and purchase warrant the effort and time?

Thanks.

IMO not worth it, simply because you already have TWO 480s which can max anything out there with ease.

This is OCN, the pursuit of performance, not cost effectiveness and not having overkill though. So if you have some extra cash burning a whole in your pocket you're itching to spend on PC parts, you won't be disappointed at all with two 580 Lightnings, they're absolutely amazing cards.

You should only do it if you are doing 3 monitors, or doing 2560x1200, but even then you won't notice a difference because the VRAM in both setups is the same, 1.5gb. Also SLI 480s and SLI 580s, the difference in performance according to tests is in the single percentage points. So my answer would be it is probably not worth it under any circumstance, unless it just makes you feel better.
